Want to get into kayak fishing.

What is the best kayak for the price. In your opinion.

On average how much would it cost to get started up? For an average rig.

Just post whatever you would like about kayak fishing.

Stories, rigs, anything.

You need to give up a budget. This OK PBG was about $2000, fully rigged:

Nice boat J Francho!

And this one was a little under $400 fully rigged before I added the fish finder. Of course then I add 400 lbs of tackle and 5 rods and it becomes more expensive but... you can do it on a budget if you want to

Can anyone recommend a decent kayak life jacket on a budget, maybe $75 or less? A fishing one would be a bonus.

I use a Stohlquist Fisherman, a little over your budget, though. Extrasport Osprey is one I had before, nice jacket, too.

A life vest IMO is not a place to skimp. It's only your life were talking about :D

Thanks for that wisdom. Am I supposed to believe a $100 one will save me and a cheaper one won't? I mainly want to make sure I buy a comfortable one.

A cheaper one can save you just as well, but that $100 vest sure is a lot more comfortable.

My kayak is a cheap one from dicks sporting goods bought 10 years ago. I added a milk crate to the back with three pieces of PVC to hold rods. It gets you some serious looks putting it in the water, but I have caught plenty of fish from it. I think a comparable setup could be had for ~200, not saying I dont look forward to getting a new sit on top, but it works, and for VERRRY cheap.

Id suggest trying out someones, or putting together a cheap setup before you spend upwards of a grand on one. Ive found some definate irritating tendicies about fishing out of a kayak. They dont bother me to the point where I dont enjoy it, but worth trying out before cleanin out the bank account
