Fat-G Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I agree, I love my Curdaos, but I got them below list values and I would not pay $199 for my 50E. But, I also invoke a personal rule in order to prevent spending $$ on fishing supplies from getting out of hand. I do not buy anything more then $200 rod or reel. If I cant find good quality reel @ $200 or below, there's a problem. I want to try out that Zillion Hayden, but probably not being buying one. Diawa has been around for a long time so, I know there good stuff. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them. Wait till I get the Type R. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Those are some high $$ reels Hayden! (I went up to see AJ and Bryan today @ TE, AJ ended up talking me into some Rage Tails.) Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted July 16, 2011 Super User Posted July 16, 2011 Just fun and silly. After we see some user reviews I suspect the tone will change. Shimano is the leader, the rest are still sprinting to catch up. The bar has been set high...I'm excited for the reviews. Quote
barroncooper Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Kind of like all the people bashing the new reels that have not even hit the store shelf yet, let alone been put to use on the water. OH I forgot, this is the internet, you kids are all instant experts. I don't care if they've hit the stores yet. It doesn't take a genius to figure out whats going on here. whether it was done for economical reasons for the company or what ever, its blatantly transparent. maybe the reels will perform well, actually I know they will. it's just that what has been done seems shady to me for what ever reason it was done. I'm no kid and I don't claim to be an expert. a forum is based on personal opinion right? Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 17, 2011 Global Moderator Posted July 17, 2011 I'm a Shimano guy and probably always will be. I'll admit I get tired of Shimano changing their lineup all the time but I know there's lots of guys out there that will change their entire arsenal as soon as all the new toys come out. It does seem like Shimano has just switched names and changed prices but without being at the factory while the reel is being assembled how do you know that they are really trying to pull a fast one on their customers? I highly doubt that Shimano thought they could simply change the names on a reel and jack the prices up and nobody would notice. In the end, the quality of your equipment only goes so far. Give someone who has never touched a fishing rod the highest end equipment from any brand name and they probably won't catch anything. If you give KVD a Zebco 33 combo I still like his odds against a vast majority of fishermen out there. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 17, 2011 Super User Posted July 17, 2011 Having gotten a Cumara a little while back, I'm very dissapointed that they changed all the rods around. I should have waited and saved $30 and just gotten a Crucial. Sucks for die-hard Shimano fans. All the more reason to go to Daiwa, whose higher end offerings blow Shimano's out of the water. Have you ever fished with one the DC's? My Steez doesn't give me near the WOW-factor that my DC does. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Have you ever fished with one the DC's? My Steez doesn't give me near the WOW-factor that my DC does. Nope, I was comparing the Core to the Steez. They are on the same level, though the Steez is very expensive. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 What I see is shimano offering a wider variety of quality reels in a price range that daiwa seems to ignore. I'm in no way excited about what shimano has done by what seems to be painting a curado white and black, calling it a Chronarch and raising the price though Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 19, 2011 Super User Posted July 19, 2011 The one thing that really makes me giggle about all the complaining, is that people have always said it's not bearing count that matters, but bearing quality. Yet there are a bunch of people seriously complaining about there being a bearing or two less. Whatever happened to quality? Like RW mentioned, after they get into the consumers hands, I'm sure we'll all learn that they are still very good quality reels. Shimano wouldn't release a bunch of crap and tarnish the name they've developed over the years. 2 Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 20, 2011 Super User Posted July 20, 2011 Nope, I was comparing the Core to the Steez. They are on the same level, though the Steez is very expensive. I honestly like my Core almost as much as the Steez. I guess I haven't been blown away by the Steez as much as I anticipated. In all honesty, my 201DC has ruined me for life...now if we only had a domestic 101DC. Quote
CKFishin Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 I want some of the new cronarchs... I am entertained by everyone throwing fits without testing them. It's similar to when gm, ford, or dodge makes changes to their diesels and everyone says it's not gonna work, then they all love it. Quote

If you've used a Curado 200e, then you've tested the new Chronarch. According to Bantam1, the only real difference between the two is the double anodized spool and handle on the Chronarch which was done for corrosion resistance. http://www.tackletour.net/TTForums/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=33615 Quote
Super User Alpster Posted July 21, 2011 Super User Posted July 21, 2011 I love all the forecasts and prognostication about the "New Shimano line up". I have five 50Mgs, two Calcuttas and one DC that I have had for years, so I won't be needing a "New Lineup" for quite a few years yet. The Shimano reels I have will fish with any other brand made and out perform all of them. I have a lot of fishing buddies and have tried most everything out there including the "Steeze". I haven't found anything I would trade my Shimanos for. Still a proud member of the "Shimano Posse". I also have two Stradics, a JDM Sustain (Twin Power) and a Stella. Shimano is tops in the spinning reel world also. JMHO Ronnie Quote

catchnm Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 My first "higher end" baitcasters were the Citica D models. Loved them......until I got a Citica 200E. Wasn't long before the Malaysia made D models were sold off and replaced with 200E models. I now have 5 200E model Citicas. That being said, I have been eyeballing the Curado 200E's since they were first introduced in 2008. Like many others here, the price caused me to shy away from purchasing more than one, and since I always have to have more than one I just bit the bullet and continued to watch them. Then my partner got one off Ebay for like $145 so I casted it a few times and the bullet went off. I have recently purchased one from Ebay at a fantastic closeout price and will order another this afternoon. Why the sudden change of heart? Because this model Curado, the 200E 5&7 will no longer be offered as a Curado. So for the price of a new 2012 Citca I can now own the equivalent of a 2012 Chronarch. I figure that until the line-up changes again that these reels will be highly sought after. I guess you might say that I'm a bit disappointed with the new offerings from my favorite reel manufacturer as well. Not a "posse" member but I have been quite Shimano loyal. I will wait until the 2012 reels get marked down for close-out (probably next year, again I refer to the "D" reels) and then maybe purchase one or two, but until then, I'll be enjoying all my "E" models. BTW, I'll also be enjoying my Pflueger Trions, BPS reels, and ---> H20 Xpress Mettle reels.<---.....best $50 reels offered anywhere. Quote

Super User South FLA Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 I just picked up a Curado E this past week on eBay for $130 out the door, or should I say a new Chronarch. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 24, 2011 Super User Posted July 24, 2011 LISTEN UP.. I'm a big Shimano fan as much as anyone else. I love my 50mg's UNTIL i tried the Lews tournament pro. I sold all my 50mgs, except one, and replaced them with the Lews. Do yourself a favor and find a Lews and give it a try. I seriously doubt you will find a better reel at the 170 price range. IMO they are under priced. Quote
