northern basser Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 TW has the new curados and chronarchs. I didn't even bother to see if they were actually available yet because after looking at the specs I didn't care. The old curado e is now the new chronarch and the new curado has regressed. Guess I'll be checking out Daiwa and Okumas new offerings this year. Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 13, 2011 Super User Posted July 13, 2011 Chronarch G = Curado E. Curado G = Tweeked Citica. (one more bearing and some polishing) Citica G = $10 more than last year. The Compre Rods look pretty cool though. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 It doesn't matter how bad the specs are, the posse will buy them by the truckload and recommend them to everybody who asks "What's the best reel for $____" regardless of whether or not they've actually used them. 4 Quote
Skunked in DR Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 There is now a huge hole in the Shimano line-up. Nothing (that I can see) from the Chronarch at 199 to the Core at 349. Wonder if they're planning to bring out a new reel in the next year in the 250-300 price range. Quote
trevor Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 And their rods are now split foam grips... which sucks. Quote

I really like shimano, but you won't see me buying or recommending their new lineup. What a disappointment. Luckily I'm not tied to one brand. I love my pat. xt and my okuma cayennes are pretty decent reels. I also have a cabelas prod. which really makes me want to try a nice Daiwa in the future. I waited for the release of these shimanos before deciding what my next reel will be. I have one empty rod and it will be filled w/ the new $250 daiwa or a new okuma komodo. Hopefully sales of the new shimanos will be poor and they'll come out w/ something new again. I won't be holding my breath. Quote
TrippyJai Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 The Clarus now has a IM8 blank and Fuji Alconite Guides. Looks attractive for the price, but I am still not digging the new split grip looks. I wonder how this rod compares to the old Compre/Crucial. Quote
barroncooper Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I don't understand shimano I don't understand. yes I am a shimano fanboy or loyalist or whatever you wanna call it. But this just erks me. I feel completely duped. The new chronarch is exactly a curado 200 e7. what do we get more for $20 bucks in the choronarch. this is a huge slap to the face to me. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I am really glad I picked up a close out 200E7 now! It just does not seem the progressed any reel. Almost seems like they are content with their line up now. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 On a brighter note. Looks like the lefties get a few more gear options. We even get a crankin ratio from the CH201E5. These Chronarch gears should fit the Curado E7's by what your all saying. If the posse' is that ticked(I think we need to hear from some more of them)? It might give the other companies a bigger market share. But I don't see it myself. I see more chronarch being sold. I personnally hated the Curado green anyway. I'd pay a few extra bucks to have something other than that butt ugly green thing. Time will tell, But having some extra gear ratio's in their line up for the lefties might just get some of use older Shimano ex buyers back as well. JMHO! There are lots of reels out there for the scorn! Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 wow some unhappy Shimano fans, never thought I would see that. Quote

midnighthrasher Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 It's amazing how all of you are dumping on a product without even trying it, actually seeing or reading a review about it. You see a picture on TW and right away you crap on it!!! I too am dissapointed with the way they changed their lineup but i will wait to get them in my hands before giving my .02 cents. As for the rods I love the split grip foam rods so i am happy with the way they look but think that they should have kept some cork grips for those who liked them. 2 Quote

This is the internet at it's best. Not one person (well there maybe one or two) on BR has ever seen or touched these reels or rods. I don't understand it either, but I'm not buying that they just simply changed some names and paint jobs. Like someone else said, it opens up some options for lefties and I personally think the gap between the Chronarch and Core was opened on purpose to either add a new reel series between them or drop the Core into it and bring out a new top notch reel. I've been a die-hard Shimano guy since the first Chronarch. I do own different brand reels, but when the price tag gets over about $150-$175 it's always a Shimano. However, I've been looking at other brands lately trying to find something in between the Curado E and the Core because I didn't like the Chronarch of late. Hopefully, they're doing something about that. I read somewhere the other day that said the Curado E had been the best selling reel Shimano has ever made so it's reasonable to think they won't can that design. Shimano didn't get where they are by being bone-heads so don't write them off yet. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Cork comes in many grades, is getting very expensive and some times hard to get. I wouldn't be surprised to see an even bigger move away from cork grips on all but the highest end factory rods. As for the reels, specs don't necessarily tell the whole story, but there is probably some valid raeson for skeptisism. Quote
philsoreel Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I love those big fat septon grips that come on the Curado E200s and are now on the Chronarch. I'll be willing to bet the ones on the Chronarch have bearings in them though. If so, I'll be buying six new Chronarch handles to put on my Core 50s and Curado E50s. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I'm juet shaking my head at Shimano right now. That is just sad. I'll be supporting Daiwa from here on out, although the Chronarch looks good if you pay like $150 for it. Unbelieveable. Quote
Fat-G Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 On the flip side the rods look awesome. If the Crucials are using the same IM 10 blank as the Cumara, I'm getting a spinning rod. Not impressed with the reels, although I like that they come in every gear ratio. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 14, 2011 Super User Posted July 14, 2011 Rabble rabble rabble!!! The intarwebz is serious bidness!!! People are ticking and moaning about a bunch of pictures they've seen? The reels haven't even made it into most peoples hands yet. Give it some time. Shimano has always made a quality product. I personally am glad to see some of the changes. I'm not dumping all of my gear and buying new stuff right away. Though I do see a few new toys making their way into my lineup. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 14, 2011 Super User Posted July 14, 2011 All they did was raise prices. Daiwa has done it every year - they just didn't change the names of the reels. Quote
s13john Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 makes sense to me, really was the chronarch that better in the first place worth 100 bux more than the curado. i dont know. But i think that they have a good assortment of reels at price points that make sense. as for me im going to buy another 50e. Quote
johnD. Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Are the new reels made in Japan ? Facts only , no speculation please. Quote
Midnight Splash2 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 That $97 50E sale that just passed is seeming like an even better deal now. I wish I had bought more at that price. The 50E is an awesome reel. All I see is regression in this new line up. Quote
northern basser Posted July 14, 2011 Author Posted July 14, 2011 I don't think its a question of wether the new reels are any good. I'm sure they will perform great. Its the renaming and regressing that has everyone complaining. A person doesn't have to hold one in their hands to see what Shimano did! Quote
