I am thinking about buying an Eastern Navionics Hotmap. This supposedly coveers the Northeast US. Anyone out there use this and find it helpful? I read a review on Amazon.com that said it rarely showed the contour lines which is precisely what i am looking for. There were only 2 reviews (Eastern) so i really don't have much to go on. As always I appreciate any info.

I have the Eastern lake Navionics Android App... Not sure if it's the same as the hot maps, but it shows the contour lines, any structure and fishing spots (users can even submit their own spots and they will show up). Great app, but only 3 lakes in my area are currently mapped (Raystown, Glendale and Marburg) They are supposed to be working on two more lakes in my area (Walker and Sayer's), but we will see... Was worth the price just to get Raystown mapped, it's cool, it even shows where the submerged houses are.

What lakes did you want to see? I'll look in my app and see if they have any information on them (I'd assume it should be the same).

Thanks Nate! As always....Very helpful info from you. I was not even aware of a Droid app. I'll look into it as well. The lakes that i normally fish are the finger lakes: Owasco, Otisco, Cayuga and Oneida. I also fish North Sandy Pond and Black Lake pretty often as well. BTW what was the cost of the app?

Thanks

Those lakes are all on my chip, and it's from 2004.

I am a huge fan of Navionic chips. I have them on my boat, on my computer and on my Iphone. If you are looking at small ponds those are not shown but everybody of water I fish is shown in great detail

I have the platinum east chip. It has 1' contour lines & 3D. It works very well for me on Santee Cooper.

The Navionics Hot Maps Premium has the one foot increments on the HD maps as well. The difference is the Platinum version can show the bottom in a simulated 3D, but it costs fifty bucks more.

Be advised, not all lakes/ponds are in HD one foot increments. The HD maps are very accurate in conjunction with GPS regarding positioning. The non-HD not so much. On some of them, the boat shows up on dry land when it's more than a hundred feet from shore. It does show contour lines in five foot increments, so it's still helpful for reference.

I find the chip to be very useful, since you can mark and store waypoints, and return to them repeatedly on either version of the lake maps. It also records the track of the boat. For me, it's well worth the money, be it on unfamiliar waters, or the ponds I regularly fish.

He's asking about specific list of lakes...can't one of you guys with the newer chips just look for those lakes?

Here's the list.

Cayuga HD

Oneida HD

Otisco not HD

Owasco HD

The HD maps show navigation markers, docks, plus other bottom info such as submerged timber, vegetation, etc.

Below is a section of Kentucky Lake that I snipped from Navplanner2 which has the same maps as the Hot Maps Premium chip so you can see what the high def maps look like. The red circles are places I marked that looked interesting when getting ready for the road trip. They will not appear on the chip's display. But you can see the contours, and two docks in the lower right corner, plus other info.
