I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a dobie will be my next dog. Preferably red or blue. Anyone here know any quality breeders?

I've had two Dobies. Great dogs. I would have bought a third, but I wanted a smaller dog that wasn't going to crush my junk each time they leap onto the couch. I'll look around to see if I still have the info for my breeder that I went to before.

Blue and fawn are undesirable colors in the breed Robert. As for the breeders, let me ask Ing. Gerardo Rocha which are the best Doberman breeders in the US and I´ll PM you with some information.

Excellent, mil gracias! I've decided on Red so blue and fawn are out.

I keep getting referred back to this group.

I don´t doubt that kennel has good dogs, lots of championship titles, European champions. Not exactly the type of dog I like, too European, this is what rules ;) :

I know that dog, Ing. Rocha owned his sister ( Enola Gay´s Daytona ) and a son ( Jalar Hannibal Diplomatic´s ), just to mention a detail FCI seldomly awards a dog a grade Excellent for hips, Hannibal has the most perfect hips and elbows I´ve ever seen, FCI awarded him Excellent hips and elbows; that´s why I tell you wait a little and let me ask Gerardo because he´s very well conected with Dobie breeders, he breeds dobies.

Since nobody has replied as to why, the blue and fawn are dilutes of red and black. Though there is no personality difference between colors, the dilutes often have skin conditions and allergies. Most reputable breeders do what they can to stay away from producing these color pups, and breed more for the black & reds.

When looking at pedigrees, it's important to see BOTH the parents, not just the sires.

In terms of hips, though all reputable breeders should test for hips, and elbows, it's actually fairly rare for dobermans to have hip displasia, and many of them have excellent hips/elbows. While hip displasia CAN occur in dobermans, there are alot of other things that should get the emphasis, such as DCM. Many of the dobermans you will see with hip and elbow problems are a direct result of being bred above the breed standard. The extra size and weight is not only very rough on the joints, it also severely limits their mobility, agility, and endurance. Your average doberman owner would never notice this until they see their dog "attempt" to run with healthy dobermans bred to standard. A doberman should certainly not be ruled out if it does not have excellent hips, if everything else checks out to be good.

Different breeders breed different dogs, so it's important to think about what you want before considering breeders. Some breed for confirmation, some breed for working sports. All dobermans need a very significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation, training, socialization, and a job to do to be at their best. Dogs from working lines will tend to be more drivey, since you have viszla experience you should be used to a drivey dog. Most viszla's have a fairly high prey drive, you'll notice that with dobermans, they also have a very high pack drive. They want nothing more than to be with you, he/she will likely follow you around, and become your shadow. You'll notice that they are VERY tuned in to you, and many times you won't even have to talk. It's like they just understand. Awesome, awesome breed, and for those that have the desire to properly raise a doberman, most are with the breed for life.

No problem Robert, I´m going to see Gerardo on Friday and ask him for some names, adresses and phone numbers for you to check. Here is more a matter of patience than eveything else, good dog breeders don´t always have puppies for sale ( like a professional kennel does ) because most of them don´t breed for profit per se.

No worries Raul. Get me the names your friend recommends and I will deal with them. If it takes a year to get the right dog it takes a year. Thanks!

My day bought a Black and tan from Kimbertal kennels.

This dog is a real head turner and for as bad *** as he looks he is the sweetest dog and well trained.

My dad bought him as a retirement gift for him self and they are a team, they pretty much do everything together.

I know that the kennel air shipped the dog to Pittsburgh. and once when he was a puppy he got sick from bad dog treats. I called the kennel and they were very helpful. His coat is like a gloss black paint job. I cant say anything bad about this breeder.

I've heard from a few people that have had good dogs come from Kimbertal. However there are LOTS of online complaints for their dogs as well. Luck of the draw I assume.

You can´t receive new PMs Robert so here´s the message:

I saw Gerardo today, he´s going to make a list of breeders for you, however, here´s something you might be interested, one of his dams is about to burst, maybe this very weekend ( maybe, heck, for what I saw I bet she is going to burst tomorrow or on Saturday ) the litter is going to be grandpuppies of this dog ( sire of the dam ) :

http://cascadedobermans.tripod.com/id11.html

The dam is litter sister to a top 10 dam of the US

If a red femele is born and you are interested in her I can have Gerardo reserve it for you, obviously we´ll have to wait to see how she develops and if she has show quality then we can reserve it, if she doesn´t have show quality then not. Gerardo is not going to sell you a pet quality dog even if you want it as pet, the idea is for you to have a really good dog.
