rowyourboat Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 alright guys. im in a club that has a night tournament for charity this year. and ive never fished in one. ive read a few posts about lures. so im pretty much just going to try a spinner w/ big colorado blade, big black worm, and and big balck jig-n-pig. but my question is where do you try to fish? and do you changed your retrieve any at all? and a bonus question, senkos are my "safety net" if i have trouble, do they work well at night??? thanks! Big-O Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 alright guys. im in a club that has a night tournament for charity this year. and ive never fished in one. ive read a few posts about lures. so im pretty much just going to try a spinner w/ big colorado blade, big black worm, and and big balck jig-n-pig. Add buzz baits or buzz type weedless soft plastics and/or jitterbug types. but my question is where do you try to fish? Same places that you would during the day especially morning and evening spots. and do you changed your retrieve any at all? Normal retrieve or slightly slower, but let the fish tell you how they want it. and a bonus question, senkos are my "safety net" if i have trouble, do they work well at night??? Dunno, have never fished them . thanks! In Red above Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 11, 2011 Super User Posted July 11, 2011 I usually start night fishing during the April full moon and continue through the October full moon. Despite popular beliefs bass do not morph into a new creature when the sun sets. Fish the same baits, same locations, and same techniques you would during the day. The only thing different I add to my repertoire at night is a Q-Beam! Quote
David301 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Just make sure you have a flash light and ensure it is a bass and not a snakehead before you go to lip it..lol Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted July 11, 2011 Super User Posted July 11, 2011 Don't forget the bug spray!!! Jeff Quote
midnighthrasher Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 All you need is a rod, a reel, line and a black jointed jitterbug. Ive caught 10x more bass at night on a jitterbug than on any other bait. Quote
newcreation Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 With my work schedule most of my fishing happens after dark. here are some things i learned. Jitterbug Jitterbug Jitterbug. All black. just be careful with trebels at night. I use a head light made by energizer i got at wally mart $12.88 i think it has two modes white led and red i use the red the most. being an led it will last all this season and well into deer season if you are into that. Finally a lure retriever if you are not 100 % confident in hitting the mark in the dark. Also i bring needlenose pliars for the trebels. It is hands down a fun strike not being able to see. Good fishin! Quote
Jim H. Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Many years ago a friend and I went crappie fishing at night. He had two headlikght bulbs mounted in styrofoam that we used as floating lights. The lights attracted bugs and the bugs were sopposed to attract minnows and the minnows would attract the crappie. They worked as advertised but the Crappie were too small and I got bored and picked up a casting rod that had a plastic worm rigged up on it. The first cast I caught a 15" bass and then a 4lb bass. The minnows were dumped and we put the lights in the boat so they would shine on the bank. Then we started fishing just the way we would in daylight. We had a really good night and both caught a lot of bass. We were doing the catch and release thing but had we been tournament fishing both of us would have had 20lb plus to weigh in. I've had guys tell me the slightest bit of light will spoil the fishing at night... hog wash, it just ain't so. Quote
Quillback Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Speaking of lights, there's a lot of private docks on the lakes around here, there's always a few that have bright lights near the water. Definite bass attractors that are worth fishing. Quote
kms399 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 went out night fishing last night. we launched at 11:30 and left at 3:30 we caught 6 right away then we had some cloud cover roll in and block the moon and the bite stopped. we caught 2 more in about 2 hours so we called it quits. it was 80 degrees with what felt like 100% humidity and almost no wind. we sweat so much that the bug spray was just about useless. in all a good trip. we caught them all on black cavatron buzz baits.
