D4u2s0t Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Update on my father in law, he's doing great! He is now able to get out of bed by himself, and sit down in his wheel chair. Hows that for inspiration to quit smoking. Quote
Quillback Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I hope your Father in law gets healthier, and I hope you're able to quit D4. I took me several tries to quit, it was never easy, but I haven't smoked in years and I am very thankful. Something else about longtime smokers is they stink. Their breath is bad, their clothes smell, and if they smoke in their house, their house stinks, sorry if that offends anyone, but that's the way it is. 2 Quote
TerryR Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I've chewed Copenhagen for over 20 years. I wish I'd never started. I've tried to quit multiple times, including with patches and pills, and it's a no go. I don't have a particularly addictive personality, either. I've spent the equivalent of at least one new boat on Cope, and it irks me to no end. Worst friggin habit I've ever had. You aren't the only one who spent a new boat's worth of money on Cope, lol. I really need to try to quit again, after I finish what is in my fridge, going to try again I guess. Quote
llPa1nll Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Never tried dip or chew or cigarettes, either the smell of the smoke or the constant spitting didn't impress me. Later on in years looking at the possible side effects I cant seem to understand why anyone would knowingly start. I guess to each their own. I have gone through each of my parents having cancer my Dad once my Mom 5 times. I have seen the pain and discomfort that it has put them through, so for me starting something that raises the odds of getting cancer wasn't even a possibility. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 21, 2011 Author Super User Posted July 21, 2011 I use Grizzy wintergreen....Still under $3 a can.Much, much cheaper than smoking. You caught me off guard with the price you're paying. I asked the guy at the gas station what he sells Grizzly for and it's $4.99 before tax and $5.30 after tax. I went to a couple of other stores and they were all the same price. How can another state be $2.00 cheaper? I looked it up: MA charges a 90% excise tax on wholesale price and then gets a 6.25% sales tax on top of that. Talk about double taxation!? I will never give this state more than I have to. That's ridonculus! Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted July 25, 2011 Super User Posted July 25, 2011 I started smoking in 1992 at age 16, I tried quitting many many times unsuccsesfully, I turned to dip in 1999 and kicked smoking to the curb..........for the most part, I still smoked when I drank. But back to dip I was a 2 can a day dipper till 2008. Skoal at first, then Cope. I have not had a dip since July 2008, just about 3 full years ago. I can only recall smoking once since than as well, at an ice fishing gathering in Feb. 2010, I was pretty well hammered and have been told I smoked a couple that day. I don't drink anymore now either, partly because of that, other than a beer every now and then. Quote

Fish Chris Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 1)Nicotine is so darn addictive. 2)Nicotine is so darn expensive. 3)When I was a kid, my parents had an aquaintence who use to have to keep a wrag shoved in his mouth, so he wouldn't drool all over himself, after having most of his bottom jaw removed because of mouth cancer. Don't remember if he chewed or dipped, but I know he wasn't a smoker. Now my father didn't dip or chew. He just got his nicotine fix with Pall Mall unfiltereds. He died of lung cancer when I was 11. Of course if lung cancer didn't get him, alcohol would have in a few more years anyway. What wonderful drugs alcohol and nicotine are. Fish Quote

I pretty much kept a dip in from the time I woke up, till the time I went to bed, except for when I was eating. I never let an "old" pinch sit in there very long. As soon as it lost it's flavor ou *** went and in went a new one, and I took big dips. Quote
bwell Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Nof gonna lie it's really not bad. Ohh yeah it is, lol. That stuff has a nasty after taste, to me at least. Skoal here is 4.55, but the new Skoal xtra is 2.50 and tastes the same. Quote
