I've had no problems using clips. I actually started doing it after reading KVD's book. Who knows if he still uses them, but he seems to have some luck with cranks. For what that's worth...

I use Norman Speed Clips whenever I'm using cranks, but I remove all of the factory split rings from the cranks as soon as I take them out of the package.

I have been using Berkley cross-loks (1 and 3 sizes) for many years without failure. use on topwaters, cranks, jerks, spoons but not spinnerbaits or jigs/tubes(direct).

I've been using a Duo-lock style snap for a long time for cranks without any problems. I remove the split rings on my cranks and just clip the snap straight onto the lure. Makes for nice very quick lure changes. Like Wayne mentioned, I've got a couple different sizes if I'm worried about the weight of the snap changing the action of something that suspends like a jerkbait.

They work great for crankbaits.

Tie them to your line using the Palamor Knot.

Easy to change crankbaits in a flash. ;)

Jayo, the snaps had no affect on your strikes. Maybe it was the crank's color or the way you were moving it.

Remember, move the crank haphazardly and bounce it off some structure or off the bottom. That is when you will get 90% of your crank strikes.

If you are fishing in 6 to 8 feet of water use a "Dives To 10 Feet" crankbait.

You may also want to change out the front hook with one size larger red treble hook. :)

I liked the Norman speed clips at first , but had too much trouble with lures coming off. I switched to fast lock design with no issues. The one downfall with using snaps or clips is that you don't retie your knot as much or at least I don't ( out of laziness I guess)

I use Boone duo-locks in sizes 3 and 2. Been good to me so far.

I don't think it's the difference in whether or not a Bass hits or not.

Can't catch fish if you're re-tying all the time. Quick change on the cranks is key.

Dou Lock snaps, in #2 and #3 sizes. Remove the split rings.

Does leaving the split rings on hamper action when you're using a snap?

They foul easier. The split rings are the reason I use the snaps - snaps are the replacement. Probably 2/3 of my cranks have snaps on them already. Reminds me to retie often.
