Super User flechero Posted July 18, 2011 Super User Posted July 18, 2011 because it seems to stay supple and not get hard and "coily" as soon as XL here in the desert heat Interesting. I've only had XT get too stiff and coiled in freezing/below freezing temps... all summer long it's fine for me. I've gone to sufix in the freezing weather. Quote

hike4steel Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 BPS Excel. It is very reassonably priced. Has not much memory and just the right amount stretch. Quote
Dr. Watson Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 Suffix Elite is the only true mono line I have used, it's great, but I mostly fish co-poly lines like yo-zuri hybrid and florocarbon like Seaguar invizx and Vicious Pro elite. Quote
Robert Riley Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 The only mono i have truly enjoyed using is the suffix elite, and that is in the lowest poundage, either 2 or 4 lbs. Use it on my UL set up. excellent shock resistance, never broke on me; yet enough stretch to be able to set the hook strongly. Quote

tholmes Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Trilene Big Game for my baitcasting rigs, mostly 10 and 12 lb., 15 or 20 lb. for some applications. Spinning rigs get either Cabela's house brand or Trilene XL 4, 6, or 8lb. Tom Quote

BassThumb Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I don't really use mono anymore for anything other than panfishing, but Sufix Elite would have to be my fav. It's the softest, easiest casting mono I've tried, and it ties good, strong knots. Mono in general, and Elite in particular, are just too stretchy and have too little sensitivity for my liking. Over the previous few years, I used to use a lot of the 17 lb. test for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and buzzbaits, and the 10-12 lb. test for cranking. I use Yo Zuri Hybrid for those now and much prefer it over the Sufix Elite. Before you try any of the monofilament lines listed in this thread, do yourself a favor and give Hybrid a try. Just downsize the test one step because it's a thicker and stronger than other lines that are rated the same strength. For example, instead of 14# mono, use 12# Hybrid. Instead of 8# mono, use 6# Hybrid. Quote
Bronzeback Scuttler Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Silver Thread Excalibur in 12lb for baitcasting reels and 10lb for my spinning reels. Low memory , smooth handling and great abrasion resistance. It's getting hard to find so I've been ordering 3000yd spools from Cabelas. Quote
