Went to a thrift shop yesterday and picked up a 1 piece 5-1/2 ft Daiwa Apollo 2900 medium action rod which is rated for 1/2-1oz lures and 8-16 lb test line.

Along with the rod is a Daiwa MA 1000X with a 5.2:1 gear ratio. The reel has a flipping switch so I'm guessing it's a good close quarters reel. Based on the specs of this combo, how well would this combo do as a cranking setup?

you really should think about a longer rod, 6'6,7 somewhere around in there. reels ratio sounds good and slow. hell try it out and see what you think. if it feels comfortable to you than you're good to go

Your rod's too short.

Great input as usual...

If you're in to the older stuff, it will do fine, but otherwise I would drop some more money on something a little nicer.

POS and a complete waste of money. You have been around

here long enough to know better. Why would you waste your

money on something like that?

:(:o:(:o

i like those old Daiwa reels. the down side is no instant anti-reverse. if youre handy you can really tune those things up.

Maybe for trolling with cranks, but is better suited for drifting 3-way live-bait rigs for walleyes.
