jazzy0017 Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I was just wondering why when everyone talks about the best reel for the money I never see this one brought up! For the price of 159 bucks you just absolutely can't beat it. Ive fished with and felt both this and the Curado and to me the Johnny Morris signature series reel is overall (casting, smooth, drag, power) better. It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other as they are both awesome reels along with the Revo STX. I was just curious on why nobody ever brings up these reels. Just wondering... Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 6, 2011 Super User Posted July 6, 2011 Don't know about anybody else but I don't buy anything that has a pro's name attached to it but that's just me. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted July 6, 2011 Super User Posted July 6, 2011 The JM Signature 2 reels are fine reels. They don't compare to the Curado for one primary reason: Longevity. The reel is under a year old and sees a tremendous number of returns and is amongst the highest of warranty service claims. I think that once the kinks are worked out of the Korean facility that produces the reels some of that will go away. Of the 2-3 JM reels I've given a shot I've had to completely break them down and service them in order to get anything close to the casting distance of my Shimano reels; at that I still get an additional 20-30 feet from my other reels. One thing I do like my JM reels for is moving baits. I fish a couple on square bill rods and that's where they excel. Quote

"knock on wood please"...But that would be the reason why then. Like I said I dont think you can go wrong with any of the reels mentioned above I was just curious as to why anytime I ever see a list of reels, I rarely see the Johnny Morris on there. With my personal experiences and what I've heard I thought they were very comparable. Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 My partner fishes them and likes them...he had them for couple years and bought another this year. Quote
David301 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I own two of them and like them very much..but then again, I don't have the money to purchase other reels just to see what is better or not. I weekly conduct a basic cleaning and lube maintenance and every 4 months a major cleaning and lube to include the gears. Quote
Hiram Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I have 2 JM reels and like them very much. I've been bass fishing for 45 years and have tried so many different reels I can't name them all. For the price range these reel are as good as you can get. Quote
steezy Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I used JM reels before I switched to all Steez reels, the JM reels performed well. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 11, 2011 Super User Posted July 11, 2011 I bought a JM spinning reel last year, it lasted only a week before I returned it and purchased something else. Quote
