JUST as I was about to give up for the evening, thinking that I skunked, as I was reeling in - discouraged as hell and right by the boat - BOOOOOM! I get a forceful strike and my rod is bent down so far I think it may break. I hear my drag whizzing as the fish starts to go under the boat...keeping my tip up as much as I can and reeling like a madwoman, with the help of my man (ICU812) I was able to net the beast and take some memorable pictures of my PB. Caught on a Watermelon Orange floating Zoom finesse worm in a Texas rig. I love fishing with Texas/Carolina rigs because it takes practically no time to change your worm without having to completely re-rig. Slow retrieve with jerky twitches every few feet.

Nice!! You and your man are living it up. I read and look at allot of his posts lately too. Congrats to both of you! I finally was about to take my wife out Sunday but she wasn't able to catch anything and I only landed one for the day. I really need to get on some smallmouths SOON!

I despise your signature, lol.

Hey thanks guys for the replies! For awhile, I was only targeting largemouth because I was being hella bias but when I caught my first smallie I couldn't really feel much of a difference in terms of fight so since I'm in Maine where the smallmouth fishing is supposedly infamous, THAT is exactly what I'm going to be targeting from now on. @ Endless: hell yeah man that's cool you read read his posts! We went out last night and I totally skunked, couldn't set a hook for the life of me! But it's those times that you don't catch anything that make it soooo worth it when you finally do. I despise when he catches more fish than me which is like 99% of the time lol.

Yea that how it will be for my wife since she went skunked. Sad part I left my finder out home so we might have been able to pull out more if I knew where the depth was. My wife she loves fishing as well and it was her first time out on the jon boat that I bought for us. It just hard to find a babysitter that we both trust with our son. I'm hoping we will have more times to fish together and maybe one day she will be a member here as well. Believe me when the day comes and she out catches me it will be last.......... no but really I won't hear the end of it.

Very nice!! Looks like ICU812 needs to start paying attention to what your are doing! LOL :P

Or you might want to watch out, a female might be taking over Maine, lol.

lol yeah guys she nailed that fish and it was a great fight!

The bass came in jumping but she had already set the hook through the top lip and it wasn't going anywhere. you can see how the hookset is right in the top lip in the pic, way to go baby!

When the bass got to the boat and I dipped the net in to scoop it, it realized what was happening and took off under the boat, screaming drag in the best fight I have seen this season. Beezy kept her rod tip up and maintained pressure on the fish, bringing it up carefully to my net and securing the catch to land her PB smallmouth.

I was so excited for her and still am, it was a great fish out of a small pond that most people only catch pickerels and white perch out of, and many just skunk, so the way she worked the deep rocks with her worm slowly really paid off for her - I wouldn't be surprised if the bass was close to a pond record.

Great fish!!! Big fish like that puts up a heck of a fight. Your ruined now!!! Did you get to weigh it? How much did it weigh?

Thank you! I did weight it, was 2.82 lbs, still my personal best!

Went out onto the Penobscot River today and caught my first river smallie!!! 2.02 lbs, not huge but healthy and a great fight...kept getting snagged on rocks using a double tail YUM grub on a jighead and at first I thought this was just another snag until I reeled in and it jumped! And yeah it's bleeding, hooked it in the intestine but suprisingly after catching and releasing it seemed to do a final kick and swim away after questionably not swimming immdediately =( I'm a strong advocate of catching and releasing and it's the worst feeling ever to potentially lose a fish because of a crazy deep hookset...but we trolled past where we released it at and didn't see it floating so we are hopeful that it made it =)

Great fish!

As for the bleeding, it happens sometimes. I'm sure most of us here have had this same thing happen and while it feels awful, it's part of the game. It was nice to read that you took the time to see it swim again and even looked again for it later. Keep after those fish. :D

Nice catch! pound for pound, smallies are more exciting than largies for sure. You'll be looking for that 4 lber next.
