Having No Luck At The Lox In S Florida

hey guys, help me out here. i cant seem to catch a break at the LOX, entering off Loxahatchee Rd. i go north east from the ramp 1/2 mile to the signs where no boats are allowed and then back. also tried going on the other side of the cat tails where its about 6 inches deep. only thing i caught so far all i caught from 3 trips and 5 hours each time was a mudfish.

been using an assortment of top water frogs, weightless lizard looking worms and a few different weightless zoom worms.

not too sure whats going on but i could use some help if you guys dont mind. kind of frustrating.

I have had good luck using swim senkos in the past couple of months up till last week also, Got shut out too.....Since they moved the weed barrier in the east/west canal I took it all the way to the end, fished the spillways and nothing last week either. Going to give it a try early friday morning again. Sorry I cant be of much help.

im headed back out there Sunday morning around 545 as usual. stay til around 11 and head home. i will keep trying what i got in the box..

I have been very successful fishing around water control structures with T-rigs, crankbaits, and lipless crankbaits, as well as fishing main canal covering as much water as possible and concentrating on areas where I do catch fish with lipless lures. Make sure you vary your retrieve and try yo-yoing it, speed trolling, etc. until you can dial them in. Frogs work well in and around visible structure and deeper pockets in shallow flat areas.

i have been out there less than 5 times and when fishing the main canal north east bound, i see the barrier there. when should this be removed? its kind of pointless to be out there and have only the size of a football field to fish with. on google maps i see this runs WAY out there and so many more spots to fish.

That barrier is there until October 2012, Nothing we can do about it. Try taking the canal west from the boat ramp, that is open now and it runs a couple of miles west until the flats, I could not get on the flats as of last week, water still too low. Ill be out there Sunday, But ill be in my patrol car unfotunately.

very dumb question but that barrier... is it there for NO TRESSPASSING or a "hey, proceed at your own risk" sort of thing? i dont want to get into trouble but if i have the choice, id like to see whats out there. im thinking this may be there for the bigger, deeper water running boats or something.

Crankbaits and lipless it is for me..Il give it a shot and the spillways friday at sun up....thanks

No dont go out there...It is for no trespassing, your on a Federal Preserve and you dont want any issues with US Fish and Wildlife. They will make your life miserable.

Lox can be very good or very slow. A few of the guys here know the best spots.Good luck trying to get that information.

I would suggest going out to Sawgrass, along US 27,or to the canals along alligator alley west of the toll plaza. You will catch fish. Fish at first light.

Lox is too shallow right now.

When I go out there I only fish in the main canals. Usually go after work around 6 or so and we usually catch about 6-10 before sundown. I am going to try friday at sun up. I wont go in the flats yet. I know the water there is dangerous right now and I have no desire to get out and push. Thanks for the info on the other spots.

it's summer time, so don't get too discouraged. as said before, the spillways all hold fish. my 2 go to baits in summer at lox are a big worm with a 1/2 oz tungsten or a big spook. i have also had success with a scrounger at the spilways. i fish my big worms on a shimano curado 3.8:1 ratio. this reel forces me to slow down. if your are not hitting rocks, you will not get bit. the first and second spillways and all of the cuts in the canal have produced big fish. the water has come up, but unless you have the setup that shane has, don't even try to get skinny. if you put in at lee road or the 20 mile bend, pop r's, lipless cranks and spooks will work.

Still blows my mind every time I hear you say how slow you move those worms, Bruce. Obviously it works though. I certainly understand the purpose. I've done similar things with a 4.7:1 ratio reel before. I've just never tried it for worm fishing.

I have next no success in bass fish, not that I'm doing much of it, the humidity and gnats have removed my motivation. Bank fishing in my area, both ponds and canals is terrible, like it is every year at this time.

There is a world of great fish out there right now to be caught, that's where my attention lies.

Thanks again for all the info...for now I just stick to the south end of Lox, Ill eventually get up there to the other locations, still learning as I go.Like I said I will not attempt to get on the flats until I know it is safe. I dont have a 3.8 reel so I feel a trip to Bass Pro is in the cards today. lol Ill give it a go Friday and let you guys know the outcome. thanks again Louie

Maybe you are trying to do too much. Try just using senko's (both wacky and T-rig) and maybe drag around a 10" worm with a 1/4-3/8 oz weight. Lot's of times, the issue isn't what bait to use but where the fish are. By constantly changing baits you are adding a variable.

I don't know what to tell you dude I taught my son to catch bass on a senko at age seven. Just keep trying the senko it is fool proof, if they won't bite that they probably won't bite much of anything. It's not known to catch big fish, but it will almost always catch something. I don't know your experience level which is why I suggest using the senko because it's so easy to use. Try slowing down when you fish... your posts seem like your talking real fast and you probably fish the same. Yesterday was an odd day for me as well, the bite was very lazy, and I was dead sticking flukes just to get a bite. The fish change day to day and sometimes hour to hour. If you were home by 11 to post about your trip, you gave up to early, the best bite sometimes doesn't come til afternoon.

3 of us were there from 6-11 and only one little one from a worm. Not too sure what he was using. I then drove out to the Hillsboro canal near the turnpike and drove around seeing what kind of structure was out there for the next morning trip I take. Looks nice, lots of trees shading areas where we saw a few jumping. Too hot though and came home.
