Shad_Master Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 It's a spotted Bass - no really, as I understand it those are the result of pigment sort of like some people have birth marks. This comes up from time to time around here and that's what I have been able to figure out anyway. Quote

Super User RoLo Posted July 8, 2011 Super User Posted July 8, 2011 Several years back on my former home-lake, we began to see bass with black spots (melanosis) in random places on their body. I got conflicting reports as to the cause, some saying it was viral, others saying it was parasitic. In ether case, it’s probably due to some mild environmental stress, but most importantly it appears to be harmless and I'm not aware of any ill-effects. Roger Quote
Oscar O. Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 The traditional stripe along the length of the body is soooooooo overrated. Quote

BassThumb Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I caught one like that the other day. It also had some fin rot in or near the spots, but nowhere else. It was a healthy, well-fed fish otherwise. Quote
