Robert McNamara Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 After a 10 year break from fishing. I am getting back into it. A lot has changed as far as lines go in that time. I have done a lot of reading about fluorocarbon, But there is a lot of info out there. I would like to try some but am confused on what would be a good one to start with. I am looking for a line that would be good for someone trying fluorocarbon out for the first time. There are so many brands and types out there. Thanks Quote
David301 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I myself use Seaguar INVIXZ line. Make note that Fluorocarbon line has allot of memory thus causing it to curl up and cause backlashes. So with this information it is highly recommended to use a line conditioner such as Ardent line butter or Kevin VanDam's line and lure conditioner. I will soon be trying out Bass Pro Shops XPS fluoro line. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 5, 2011 Super User Posted July 5, 2011 You'll get a ton of suggestions as far as brands, lb test etc are concerned. What are you looking for in your FC line? Manageability? Abrasion resistance? Low stretch? Knot strength? Are you spooling it on a spinning reel or a casting reel? Quote
Robert McNamara Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 I am basically looking for an FC that gives me the best all around performance manageability is probably more important. to help with casting and possible backlashes. For now i plan on pairing it with a shimano citica i picked up. if all goes well i will put it on an old quantum baitcaster i have Quote

With your Citica, most fluorocarbons in the 10-12 lb test range should behave reasonably well. Heck, you can even go up to 15 lb test, and it should probably be fine. Use KVD's L & L as has been mentioned. Spiderwire Ultracast FC, although not very popular here, is what I use and will recommend. Low stretch, good knot strength, okay abrasion resistance, low memory. Seaguar Invizx and Abrazx both get good reviews. The invizx is limper and the more manageable of the two, but it also has much more stretch and a lower abrasion resistance. Invizx is more manageable than the Ultracast FC, but I hated the stretch it had. I haven't used Abrazx too much though. Trilene 100% is another favorite. It's thicker than comparable lines in the same lb test. So it's got good abrasion resistance. But it also has more memory than Invizx or the Ultracast. P.S. All of these are priced around $20/ 200 yd spool. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 5, 2011 Super User Posted July 5, 2011 Seaguar Tatsu. I´ve never been a big fan of FC ( only have one reel spooled with FC ), Seaguar Carbon Pro was what I used every now and then but I finally ran out of FC and I did like Tatsu very much, still not a big fan of FC but if I´m going to fish with FC then Tatsu is my choice. Super User roadwarrior Posted July 6, 2011 Super User Posted July 6, 2011 Tatsu is THE BOMB! Otherwise, Seaguar InvizX #10 for spinning gear, #12 AbrazX for baitcasters. 1 Quote
NBR Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I have used 2 or 3 fluro,s but now for the price the BPS is my choice. I can't see any difference with others except cost. Quote

NBR Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Oh me! The first thing that goes is your hearing followed by memory and I can't remember what was next. I fish very clear water always see bottom at 15 feet and usually 20'. So even though I am not sure it is a big deal; line that is harder to see is a personal confidence builder. I am sure I used some Berkley and another one or two. I didn't have any problems with any of them I just liked the BPS price. Especially as my use of floro increased. My experience is strictly on bait casters. On spinning gear I use mono in 4 or 6 pound test except for the rig I use for skipping. Quote
