I gave up on crankbaits a couple of years ago. I'm going to try them again. I had good luck on Wiggle Warts and DD 22's. Friends tell me to go to Spro Little John's (4 types)and Rapala DT series. These are more expensive. Are they worth it?

The Spros are solid cranks, but I would save a few bucks and just buy some Bomber FFS. These things are awesome and are half the price. For higher end cranks, LC's are hard to beat.

SPro are worth every penny, as are DT series if you're in open water. If you're banging on structure the Bomber baits and Lucky Craft RC series are great. I love, love, love LC and Megabass cranks, as well as YoZuri when I can find the Hardcore.

Agree'd the KVD Square bills work really well for me also in structure...

Those are excellant baits but if you don't want to spend that much , stick with bandits or strike kings.

There are so many good brands of crankbaits it can be hard to choose. Sometimes you have be arbitrary and just pick some that run at the depths you want that are a reputable brand.

I'm partial to Rapala, the DT's are worth the money. Never fished the Spro's.

I have broken way to many bills off of DT's to recomend them. The only DT I like and have not had issues with has been the DT Fat 3. I have never had a problem with Bandits, and and still have and use a ton of them. I really like Strike King as well. They catch fish, and don't hurt the wallet. I have 100's of them in every series they make and have never got 1 single bait that didn't run true, most did right out of the box, some needed a little tuning. Stock hooks on the KVD's, Red Eye Shads, 5xd's and 6xd's are good, and I use them till they need to be changed. Series 1,1xs,3,4s,4,5, and 6 hooks get replaced right out of the box they are just a plain bronze hook, and dull fast.

Like others have said you can find good cranks in any price range. ....but it is the attributes of one bait, not brand, that make it good in a particular situation vs another. Determine the depth and speed you want and then find a bait that can fill that need. There are lots of things to consider but depth and speed are at the top for me.

Call me old fashioned, but I am still partial to the Cordell Big-o. I've caught a ton of fish on them over the years.

I never been a huge fan of cranks but as for lipless crank the red eye shad has really gave me a ton of confidence and has become one of my favorite baits to throw. Even when there not really hitting it it's had for me to stop throwing them I have begun to like them so much.
