I just got my first smart phone this morning. Not something I was looking forward to, mostly because I just got my old phone figured out. Anyway, it's a droid OS phone by samsung on verizon service. I was looking around for a BR app and could not find one. Is there one available? How do I get it? Am I just a moron? Any help would be appreciated.

I recently purchased a smartphone myself and of all the stupid things I've done in life this ranks near the top of the list. I have no complaint with the phone itself, works just fine, but what am I going to use it for? I check the stock market once in a while but that's about it. If I want surf the web or post a message someplace I can wait until I get home and do it in comfort. All I've done is to increase Verizon's revenue and add an additional expense.

As my facebook page says............I DON'T TEXT OR TWEET, YOU WANT ME USE THE d**n PHONE!

I finally gave in for several reasons. 1. My largest client does not use the phone anymore, or so it seems. Everything is text or email. 2. I have several teenagers I am trying to keep track of and this seems to be the easiest way to do so.

In this day and age I can see the use of these phones for certain businesses, but I really think a lot of has to with the brainwashing the phone makers telling people " ya gotta have this". Being retired I no longer deal with clients, the business that I did do was usually done face to face or on the phone. Hard for me to understand why any client wouldn't pick up the phone, I answered all calls, I was interested in making money, but this is a new age....glad I'm not part of.

I have a buddy back in Detroit, owns and operates a large scrap yard, customers and contacts all over the country, he still uses a rotary phone.......lol, no kidding.

Despite my constant requests that she not get me one, my wife bought me an I-phone for my birthday this year. On very few occasions have I actually used it for anything that I couldn't do with my old phone and at the end of every month I get almost sick to my stomach to know that I'm going to be paying almost $80 for a phone bill for a phone that I really don't need! I'd like to go back to my Samsung Magnet and my $30 phone bill but I'd never hear the end of that! The only good part about my I-phone is that is has good games on it so I have something to do when I have to go to my mother-in-laws house.

What I don't get are tablets. They're not as powerful as a laptop. It seems they're just a large-screen version of a smartphone, except they don't make calls. Useless! I can't see spending $500-$800 for one of these things.

With thousands of apps you'll find out. From weather channel, police scanners, traffic, local news, how to tie knots, craigslist to see the good deals locally etc. Whatever you're into there's apps out there. Echolink for HAM radio, GPS fishing maps for lakes, mass transit schedules, list goes on

Not a one of those I need or use. I get the weather on my computer, tv and car radio, I don't care what the police are doing, always lots of traffic in Florida, I already know how to tie knots, who..t...f is craig guy? The list goes on of useless twaddle that I can do with more ease at home. I think Warren Buffet uses a flip phone, got more action than him? These phones are total brainwash for the average consumer, like we all need to do our online banking on the run.

@ Glenn.......I was at a real estate seminar a few months back and one of the agents had a tablet. Presentations looked really nice for their customers to view, I can see the use of a tablet in that occupation. Coffee at Starbucks with a tablet kind go hand in hand, but at Dunkin I'd go with an outdated newspaper, makes sense as I'm still using outdated Power Pro :D

Snook, great minds think alike. My wife conned me into getting a smart phone. I kept it for two weeks and then swapped it for my old flip phone. Here's my philosophy. A cell phone is a device for making and receiving telephone calls. That's it. I have no need for my phone to do anything else. I abhor texting. If one wants to communicate with me, pick up the friggin phone and call me. If one wants to send me a text message, then send me an email. I'll read it when I get home. If I want to take a picture, I will use my digital camera. The photo quality is much better.

I could rant further, but I would be preaching to the choir. :)

Addendum. I just saw my wife texting our daughter, who lives a mile away. I made the mistake of saying "Why don't you just call her. Texting is asinine." I am now officially in the dog house.
