Morelures Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I watched my 580's sink yesterday...I need a new pair, last time I bought the 580 glass. How is the 580 Polycarbonate? Can you tell the diffrence? Thanks! Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I use to have the polys. This time I went with the glass. IMO stick with the glass. I like them 100 times better. They seem more rugged and clearer imo. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 30, 2011 Super User Posted June 30, 2011 I bought the glass used them for a week and took them back. I couldn't see my gps with them on. Quote
VTechHokie Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I have a pair of the glass. Wouldn't know what the polys are like, but I have heard that the glass have much better optical quality. I love mine to death Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 30, 2011 Super User Posted June 30, 2011 Polycarbonate scratches just by looking at it, glass doesn´t. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 30, 2011 Super User Posted June 30, 2011 Polycarbonate scratches just by looking at it, glass doesn´t. OH contrare mi ami. Mine are used on the water and on the farm. There are no scratches on them. Quote
Morelures Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Jig Man did you return them for the Polycarbonate? Quote
bweave09 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I have worn a buddy's poly 580s a few times and they were ok. My Fisch w 580 green mirror glass came in last night and I fished with them on this morning. WOAH...glad I went glass! Quote
bweave09 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Not to thread jack here, but to avoid watching my 580s sink like Morelures, does anybody have sunglass retainer suggestions? Croakies, Cablz, etc Quote
kLuo Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Not to thread jack here, but to avoid watching my 580s sink like Morelures, does anybody have sunglass retainer suggestions? Croakies, Cablz, etc I was looking for the same thing a while back. Most people told me Cablz, but I found that the Croakies ARC system is even better. similar to cablz, but improved. Quote
GTrombly Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I have CHUMS retainer, it has a foam piece that floats. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 3, 2011 Super User Posted July 3, 2011 Glass is optically superior PERIOD, poly is lighter and IMPACT resistant. I have a pair of 580 Fisherman boat glasses in amber, but end up just wearing my Tropic Star Costa's with interchangeable lenses most of the time. Quote
Morelures Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 I went with the Polycarbonate 580 in grey. The pair I lost was the 580 green mirror glass (great for tannic water). I think the glass was a little clearer, but it may have been the green mirror that made the tannic water look good that I fish often. The Polycarbonate is allot lighter and you can tell the difference when wearing them all day. And I like the fact that if I’m running down the river they have a better impact resistance rate. I also saved a little chunk of money, so over all I am happy with them. I would buy either one again, the glass or the Poly. And I also bought one of those goofy looking straps, that I will never call “goofy” again! Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 7, 2011 Super User Posted July 7, 2011 Costa has some nice retainers Quote
bryand82487 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I bought the glass used them for a week and took them back. I couldn't see my gps with them on. I've noticed some types of screens you can't see well with polarized glasses. For instance it's hard to read the digital screen at a gas pump with them on. I think that's with all polarized glasses though. Quote
