Quantum Custom Rods

Hey Guys and Gals,

I am interested in gettting a Quantum Custom Grisgby Rod for soft plastics or the Hackney 7'2 rod. Anyone used either of these rods? All the rods I have are Falcon Cara's or Lowriders. I really like Falcon's but was interested in trying something new. I one Falcon headturner for soft plastics, and was thinking about getting another rod for soft plastics and I was really leaning toward the Quantom Rods? Any reviews or suggestions?

I don't have the Tour Grigsby or the Tour Hackney rods, but all the rods I use are Quantum, and I love them. Very sensitive rod! I have the new Smoke rod in 7' 4" for flipping and that is the most sensitive rod I have ever held. Don't forget how light it is!!

I just couldn't bring myself to ever spend my money on a Quantum product.

I agree with Fat-G on this subject. Also I would fish with a Pocket Fisherman if they paid me what they paid KVD to fish Quantum.

Quantum doesn't get much love here. I like some of their reels but never tried the rods.

I have been fishing a Hackney as a "compare and report" rod for a couple weeks. Here are my thoughts:

It's light and sensitive, but not moreso than a lot of other rods in the same field, some rods that are far less expensive are more sensitive and just "feel" better.

The components are OK, but nothing to write home about.

The rod is a touch heavy, considering that other rods in the range are considerably lighter.

The tip is borderline too soft, but that's a preference thing.

I'd also consider looking at the Carbonlite 7-0 MH, the Johnny Morris Signature 7-2 MH Fast, the Cumara 7-2 MHFast, the Avid 7'M Fast, the Veritas 7-3, The 7-3 Verdict... All are either better rods in the same price point, slightly more that will blow the Quantum out of the water, or less money for the same performance.

Brand aside, Signature Series rods are marketing with little unique to offer. In this case, I also find the term "Custom" inaccurate. By it's nature as a production rod, it can not be defined as "custom" IMO.

I just purchased a Hackney 7-11 pitchin rod and find the rod to be a very nice rod. It might be a tad heavier than I originally expexcted it to be,and thats comparing it to the Tour PT 7 ft mh rod that I have. I am currently using 15 lb vicious fluorocarbon on it and find it to be very sensitive. The rod has awesome parabolic bend to it when setting the hook on a fish. I bought this rod on sale for 60 percent off original price. After fishing the rod,would I pay full price for it.....no. But, then again I would not pay the outlandish prices slapped on the GLommis rods either.I picked up the KVD 6-6 MH TOUR PT ROD also and it is as light as a feather and very sensitive. Just a little word on the vicious fluorocarbon, if you have not tried it you need to give it a shot. I had a 3.5 lber wrap me around a jagged steel post on a dock and after several pulls back and forth(30 sec worth) he finally came back around and I put him in the boat. This line was frayed but never broke. I really like this line after a shot of KVD line conditioner. It is not as clear as the berkley fluo. but I fish stained water all of the time so it does not matter to me.

The rods are built to the specs the anglers wanted in the rods like the Biffle flipping rod he helped designed as he describes in the june issue of Bassmaster. The kvd rods are very very light and can't attest to there sensitivity as I only handled one in BPS and got a Kistler rod at a huge discount so I didn't get the kvd rod. Most of the rods can be found on ebay discounted aso.

I bought them from simmons sporting goods in alabama over the internet. They are out of the hackney but they still have the 6-10 biffle rod. I went on there site a while ago and noticed they are back up to 199. ???? Do not know whats going on there. I wished I would of bought two of the hackneys, I am really liking this rod. It has just enough tip to pitch with, and the parabolic bend is awesome, in other words your arm and elbow does not have to absorb the shock of the hook set when you are in real close on pitchin bass.
