Super User 00 mod Posted August 6, 2011 Super User Posted August 6, 2011 Forgot to ask, what bait where you using on your flick shake? Jeff Quote
ICU812 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Nice! I had a 7 species day about 3 weeks ago. Kinda crazy, but between the 2 of us we caught, lmb, gar, catfish, crappie, bream, pumpkinseed and a drum! LOL Jeff Ha nice man! One thing that's unique about fishing that I enjoy is that you never know what's on the end of the line until it comes to surface! I'll be down in TN soon man, can't wait to see the diverse population down there! It's supposed to be super hot down there today, try to stay cool man! Forgot to ask, what bait where you using on your flick shake? Jeff 6"zoom trick worm in alabama craw - they were loving it! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 6, 2011 Super User Posted August 6, 2011 When and where in TN you coming? Quote
endless Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Wow I felt that slap!! lol. You probably did the best thing in creating a fish log. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 That is a great day on the water. I love it when it is a multi-species kinda day. Nice report, fish, and pics. Congrats to you and thanks for sharin. Quote
ICU812 Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Wow I felt that slap!! lol. You probably did the best thing in creating a fish log. lol no slap intended from me if that's what you mean. You're catching 5 lbers man I'm just tryna keep up! But yeah the fish log is just easier for me than trying to think up a new topic each time I go out lol. Speaking of going out . . . Took Beezy out yesterday and ran into some deep water lmb. Was hoping to get up to a smallmouth lake today but the wether is looking like it’s against us Here’s a couple chunks from yesterday and my first swimjig fish. The first 2 fish both went around 3 1/2 lbs and came on the flickin rig. Had to break out the vvs diamond nail clippers for this picture And my first ever swimjig fish – this ¾ oz jig and 6” trailer casts a mile – so although the fish only went around 2lbs the fight in still took forever lol Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Nice fish and you are really enjoying a good summer and yeah some days its rough but I experiment on those days with different lures and techniques. Way to go and you will get into the 5lb fish soon with the way you are hooking up. God luck and keep them coming Quote
Big-O Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 You're on'em strong Icu and WTG! Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
ICU812 Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 You're on'em strong Icu and WTG! Big O www.ragetail.com Thanks boss! It's been great falling back in love with bass fishing! I'll be down south soon enough and on the hunt for a DD! Quote
ICU812 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Finally got a Hudd fish! Haven’t been throwing a hudd for too long but the one I’ve been throwing has been weedless. Decided to throw my non-weedless one today and finally hooked into a hudd fish. You can see in this shot how well it was hooked. I was stoked. Not the biggest fish but ok they do eat them. Kept throwing it for about 20 minutes and something felt weird on the cast. Reeled it in and I’m like what in the . . . So what these things last one fish?? So I had to change swimbaits and as I was switching up for some reason I threw out a curly tail on a shaky head. When I was finished tying up the new swimbait I pulled up the worm and right at the boat this little smallie hit it. Didn’t get any more bites but I was only out for a few hours. Had a great time and was glad to knock a hudd fish of the list, or soft swimbait fish at all for that matter. Quote
endless Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Nice so is the Hud ruin now?? Never heard of those looks neat. Man I need to find some LMB and Smallies together. Are my spots I fish is LMB only, we have some just to far the ones I know. Keep it up ICU! Quote

Are my spots I fish is LMB only, we have some just to far the ones I know. Keep it up ICU! Yeah the hudd is ruined - 15 bucks wasted on a 3lb fish Hudd is short for Huddleston. Here's a link to the exact swimbait I lost http://www.***.com/Huddleston_Deluxe_6_Trout/descpage-HD6T.html I hear you about the smallies man. There are some good smallie fisheries about an hour away that I keep trying to get to - hopefully this weekend if the weather cooperates. Here are a few videos of some west coast lmb that came on hudds. The weights aren't verified and there's plenty of controversy about this guy and his fish, but regardless they're big fish. Hope all is well with you man! Quote
ICU812 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Guess you can only post two vids per post so here's another impressive hudd vid. Like I said, say what you want about this guy and his whole ordeal but the fish are pretty big man. Quote
Super User deep Posted August 13, 2011 Super User Posted August 13, 2011 Nice fish dude! Would you mind sharing the set-up you were using for that hudd? Quote
ICU812 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Very nice fish, Congrats! Why thank you Ma'am, thank you very much Quote
ICU812 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Nice fish dude! Would you mind sharing the set-up you were using for that hudd? Of course man! Lure - 6" hudd trout in sliver/green Rod - Okuma Big Bait Rod 7'11" Extra Hvy (a little overkill but it was recommended here as a good swimbait rod to go with my reel - should have maybe gone a little lighter but this should be good for bigger baits and maybe light saltwater fishing) Reel - Shimano Calcutta 400b (got a great deal on this reel last year) Line - 50 lb braid w 20 lb mono leader All of this is a little much for the size of fish that took it lol but I'm out of here in less than a year and on to bigger and badder bass lol - a DD is in my future. Way to go.. better to have an overpowered set-up than an underpowered one. Braid with leader is pretty interesting. I know that Matt Allen recommends it. I'm just too scared of casting off 20$ baits on backlashes, or losing a bait while setting the hook with a bit of slack in the line. God knows I've lost some jigs and plastics while doing that (hookset with slack in the line) on my finesse spinning setup which has braid + leader. I ought to give that a try soon.. I've been losing quite a few bass on hudds/ single hook baits lately, and since I don't get bit more than twice or so a trip, it sort of hurts. Keep catching them! Quote

Yeah when I started using braid I wasn't using a leader, but I started using one pretty quick. I don't think it adds to backlashes for me at all - and the little extra stretch seems to help on the hookset. I've caught more and better fish with braid and a leader than with straight braid as well, so it adds to my confidence to have a leader tied on. Thanks for stopping thru! Quote
ICU812 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Finally got up a little north for the first time to try to figure out some Maine smallies. Didn’t get to spend as much time on the water as I would have liked but had a great time with my woman and I’ll be going back to this lake to really dissect the water. Ended up with a few decent ones, largest of the day being a new PB of 3.04 shown here. You can see the tail is like bit up or something. Decent fish came on jigs and smaller ones were chasing crankbaits. I wanted to go deep and hunt for monsters but we never got out deep for long. Really can’t wait to get back out and up the PB. I marked a few spots while we were running along that looked like they might be good holding areas. The wind and waves were a little hard on our little boat but I’ll get back out there and tough it out soon enough. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 16, 2011 Super User Posted August 16, 2011 Congrats on the new pb smallie! Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Beautiful smallie. Congrats on the time well spent with the girlfriend too. I hear ya on the wind being tough on your little boat too. We also have a little boat and I love it but when its really windy it seems to be more like a sailboat. Quote
ICU812 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Hey thanks people! Yeah the wind can be an issue with the small boat sometimes for sure, especially when the person in front is trying to lay out and work on her tan and the water keeps splashing over the bow on them lol but you didn't hear that from me Quote
