CFFF 1.5 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I have had problems accessing the forum for 4 days now and have had problems for two days after seeing that the update has been applied. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't access the forum until I commented on a Facebook post by BassResource that I found out what it was. You need to Flush you DNS cache. If you know anyone still having issues accessing the forums have them go to start > run > cmd type ipconfig /flushdns Your problems should be fixed. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 27, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 27, 2011 Yep, if anyone is still having issues accessing the forums, this will do the trick. Thank you for posting that information! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 27, 2011 Super User Posted June 27, 2011 Yep, if anyone is still having issues accessing the forums, this will do the trick. Thank you for posting that information! That's great. But there's one minor problem. If they (and I was one of the they) cannot access the forum page on the site, they cannot see this fix. There is one other thing that needs to be done along with the "dump". Any bookmark in favorites needs to be deleted. I performed the dump, clicked on favorites and the message popped up. It wasn't until I deleted the favorite, then dumped the dns resolver, then typed bassresource.com into the url bar, opened the home page, then clicked on forums that it finally worked. It was very frustrating. Since the problem only affected the forum page, there needs to be some type of flashing message on the home page regarding this fix. I have no idea how many have experienced this problem without a clue as to how it can be resolved. Another suggestion. A contact feature would be nice. I don't begin to understand computers, but I've never had to "fix" problems with my computer, and this problem affected all three of mine, to access any other forums or web sites. If not for being able to contact Alpster by email, I'd still be wondering what was going on since the "try again later" would never have been successful. Since each of us must provide a valid email address for joining, isn't it possible to send the fix for this problem to all members with the pushing of a few buttons? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 27, 2011 Super User Posted June 27, 2011 I didn't have to do anything other than wait a couple days. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 27, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 27, 2011 Apologies for the issues you're having. When we upgraded the server, the DNS (IP address) changed. A DNS change means the new IP must propagate throughout the internet across all proxy servers, hubs, and host-providers. This can take up to 72 hrs. There's absolutely nothing I can do about this, as I have no control over it whatsoever. The only thing I can recommend is either the above solution - which may or may not work - or just wait until the DNS change occurs naturally. Depending on your ISP (or work proxy server), this can take awhile. I could have posted the above information on the homepage, but again, it may or may not work, and would have generated even more e-mails asking for assistance for something that is way beyond our control. Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 27, 2011 Super User Posted June 27, 2011 I didn't have to do anything other than wait a couple days. Consider yourself lucky. It's been four or five days, and I'm still having problems. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted June 27, 2011 Super User Posted June 27, 2011 I c an only access it on my phone. I did the dump, but still get the try again later message. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 Well, I'm looking forward to maybe being able to shift from one thread to another without getting kicked off sometime before the next road trip! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 I c an only access it on my phone. I did the dump, but still get the try again later message. In addition to dumping the DNS cache, on Internet Explorer I had to go to internet options and delete the temporary files, cookies and history, before I could get on. Then it would still periodically pop up the offline message. It'll jinx me for sure, but it has been working ok since yesterday afternoon. I got away from the computer last night at around nine. Got back on this morning and the forum still operated properly. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 Well, I'm looking forward to maybe being able to shift from one thread to another without getting kicked off sometime before the next road trip! The same thought had entered my mind. It seems to be ok now. Has been since yesterday afternoon. Quote
northern basser Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I've been using different methods to try and get on the last few days with little success. This is one of 3 times out of a hundred that I've attempted where I was able to get on. I'm also not a computer wiz by any stretch of the imagination. Quote
bocabasser Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 what do you do if you have a mac? i tried at least 10 times this morning to get into the forums before getting in. i will check back later to see the advice for the mac, that is if i can get in. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 I have mac as well. I have deleted cookies, cache, history and everything else related. Still a no go. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Mac OSX 10.4 and below lookupd -flushcache Mac OSX 10.5 and above However a Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard user will tell you this command will no longer work. In Mac OSX Leopard a new command has been used to replace flushcache. To clear DNS cache in Leopard, use the following command: dscacheutil -flushcache Quote
Al Wolbach Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I am still having problems. Why don't I have problems with other sites? I'm not a computer guy, don't other sites upgrade? Maybe I just come here to often.........Al Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 28, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 28, 2011 Ok guys - for those of you still having issues, please perform a DNS test to see what your DNS resolvers are returning for the domain. You can do this by following the steps below (assuming you're using a Windows machine). 1) Click Start 2) Click Run 3) Type in 'cmd' 4) Click OK 5) In the command prompt window type in 'nslookup bassresource.com' 6) Hit Enter Then let us know what the result of this test is so we can look into this issue further. We apologize for any inconvenience and if you need further assistance or if you have any other questions please let us know. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 I knew I'd jinx myself by saying everything was finally running properly. Clicked on a different topic and got the offline message. Tried several times without success. Finally I shut the computer down and ran some errands and took care of some projects. Just started it up. Did nothing with the dns cache or the temporary files, cookies, etc. The forum page opened. It seems to be a random intermittant thing. The only thing I know for sure is that it is becoming old in a hurry. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 28, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 28, 2011 It sounds like one or more "hubs" on your ISP's network hasn't updated their DNS info yet. There's absolutely nothing I can do about that. You just have to wait until they do it. Earlier today, I threw a team of server admins at the problem and they combed through everything on the site and server. They found nothing wrong. They then performed a number of DNS tests and discovered not every ISP out there has updated their DNS cache yet. Nothing can be done from our end to speed that up. Sorry. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 What an IT for Best Buy Geek Squad found today was AOL is the problem. He told me to use Internet Explorer to see this site and it works great that way. It's been what has seemed to be over a week trying to get this figured out. I couldn't even get on the site with my Smarter-than-I-am phone until this afternoon. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 29, 2011 Super User Posted June 29, 2011 Whenever anything like this happens out west, it takes FOREVER for our DNS servers to replicate the new address. Quote
Red Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I finally am back!!! Man the last week or so really sucked without my BR fix. Glad to be back. The site seems to be a bit faster, must be the reason for the temporoary shut down. Good work!! Cliff Quote
