Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 25, 2011 Super User Posted June 25, 2011 i carved this bait like 2 years ago but i have been holding out until i can paint a bluegill pattern that i like really well. i decided to give it a go a few days ago and i'm really happy with the way it turned out. it floats on its side at rest. has awesome twitching action, it looks just like an injured fish. it will swim like an almost normal swimbait if you reel it pretty fast. its mostly a finesse topwater swimbait. Super User islandbass Posted June 25, 2011 Super User Posted June 25, 2011 That is way cool. I would be shocked if it didn't catch fish. Well done and I bet it was worth the wait of learning to paint the blue gill scheme. Well done! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 25, 2011 Super User Posted June 25, 2011 Very nicely done! One question, it appears in the pic of the lure in the water that you have a larger hook in the rear instead of the front? I don't fish many swim baits at all, but does the larger rear hook stabilize it more or am I seeing an illussion on the pic and both hooks are the same? Great looking bait either way. I like what you did by letting the bait turn off to it's side, I did a couple of liplesss cranks that way with great results. They would track really nice and on a pause, fall off to the side, them "BAM" that lure would get it's paint takened off. Awesome lure you got there. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 25, 2011 Author Super User Posted June 25, 2011 thanks guys. i am pretty confident this thing is going to crush some bass. jigfshn, both hooks are gamakatsu size 4. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Man that swimbait is awesome, everything from the design to the paint. You nailed it. Quote
gobig Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 That bait looks amazing. I would love to see a video of it in action. Quote
bassman31783 Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Dude that's a really good looking bait. Great job. Let us know when you catch a monster on it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 4, 2011 Super User Posted July 4, 2011 Big Dave, is this kool or what? I was just thinking about not seeing any of your posts in a while and wondering how you were doing. I was concerned that you had run off and gotten married. The biat is outstanding, as usual. Bluegill patterns can be big producers, as witnessed by Bandit introducing their bluegill pattern last year and Strike King's bluegill crankbait. So fill us in. Did you like your first year at school? Got a job this summer (my leads phloched for you). Doing any fishing with your dad? Keep us posted. Have a great summer and keep those new bait pics coming. Sam, i definitely have been spending much less time around the forums, but i still lurk every day. i've been spending most of my internet time over at reddit. so addicting! i didn't run off and get married but i did meet a girl at school and we've been together for a few months. i even showed her how to airbrush the other day and she painted a crankbait! it looks pretty good, i might put up pictures soon. i don't know if "like" is the right word, but i didn't have too bad of a time. first semester was okay, i hung out with my good friend chris from highschool all the time. he failed a few classes and dropped out so i didn't know too many people by the time second semeseter rolled around. i started opening up to some new people about halfway through the semester and made some good friends. i did well in most of my classes, they were tough but not too difficult. i did fail calculus 2 though and am taking it online right now, it sucks so hard, i hope i can pass this time around. no job yet (put in several applications when i got home from the summer but i haven't' heard back from anyone). i really need the cash though! also haven't been fishing with my dad at all this year, its kind of sad. now that i have my own truck and am driving everywhere i do most of my fishing with friends. i want to get back on the water with him though. just painted a bait today so i'll have some new pics up for you guys tomorrow, and i'm planning a few new swimbait designs Quote
