Super User Hooligan Posted June 25, 2011 Super User Posted June 25, 2011 My biggest problem with the entire Revo series is their consistency. They're inconsistent from bait to bait in terms of setting the reel, and they're incredibly finicky when it comes to line and rod. I've not been happy at all with any of the reels I've owned from the series and currently own none, thankfully. I'll fish my Chronarch and Core over that any day, particularly if it's anything like the others. I won't hold my breath in anticipation, as I've not had a good product from the Revo series yet. Super User clayton86 Posted June 25, 2011 Super User Posted June 25, 2011 My revo sx ain't finicky a bit I have it spooled with vanish 17lb on a veritas set it once when I got it with just a little pressure on the spool that's it and I throw every weight under the sun without an issue and for a mile. I kept reading bout them being finicky but I haven't experienced it yet Quote

You know, a couple years ago I decided to "get with the program" and put down my 5500 c3's and splurged on a Revo Toro. I have since purchased 2 STX's. Love 'em. Can't see dropping $350 for another reel, but it sure is purty. Quote

The premier has functioned great after 2-3 years of hard use so I find no reason not to give this one a shot. I have sold almost all my Shimano's (Chronarch 50mgs, and Core) and replaced them with Lew's. Although I have yet to find a reel that cast as far and easy or holds up as well as my Calcutta's. Quote

barroncooper Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 good looking reel. I think they'll be typical of most of the revo series though. I've had all of the series up to the mgx and they've all felt great out of the box. I just don't think the gear material (duralumin) is up to the task in terms of longevity. The shimano lineup might not be the buttery smoothest reel on the market but I do know they'll perform and feel the way they did 7 yrs from out of the box new. with that being said I hope the mgx is a solid performer. Industry needs competition. competition is what drives innovation and this can only be a good thing for the end consumer. 1 Quote
