trupp30 Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I have been using the Zoom super flukes for only a short time. However, whenever I do use them I always catch at least a few nice fish. I fish in Rhode Island, Mass, and Connecticut. I use the white pearl style exclusively. I'm looking to expand my color options and would like some help on the best patterns to buy. Anyone who uses the Zoom's, I'm wondering what are your top 3-5 color choices? What part of the country do you fish? Why do you choose the colors you use? And do you think the color choice will vary much from region to region? Thanks for the help. TRUPP Quote
fishingkidPA Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 i do not think the color will vary. i fish the north east too. im in PA. i really like watermelon candy green pumpkin bubble gum red shad summer craw (i dont know if any of these colors come in flukes except bubble gum) Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted June 24, 2011 Super User Posted June 24, 2011 Yup its pretty universal if I'm to lazy to tie a frog I can throw it in the mats and drag it like a frog if they miss let it die and settle to the bottom they don't miss a 2nd time. They were my go to last year I never went a day without fish last year because of the zoom super fluke. When all else failed it prevailed id go from no fish to fish almost everycast when I switched. This year it hasn't been that good to me its been good but not great. Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 24, 2011 Super User Posted June 24, 2011 I fish in the Rochester, NY area. Since you fish with white pearl, try a darker color. Pumpkins, watermelons, junebug, baby bass, shad, shiner and many other colors work very well. Bass don't see all the color subtleties that we do and if they did it may not make a difference anyways. If you have a light, medium and dark color, you'll have what you need as far as I'm concerned. It's much more important to locate the fish and make a good presentation. Quote
PondBoss Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I fish the Zoom Fluke and the Big Bite Baits Jerk Shad, basically the same bait. My Favorite colors: Arkansas Shiner Watermelon Candy Alewife Pearl w/glitter Smoke w/metal flake Quote
Scorcher214 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Pearl, only color I've been using all year. I have a pack of baby bass, but pearl is my first choice in all situations. Never lets me down. And always weightless. The types of retrieves I use are usually 3 twitches (and I mean twitches, not jerks) and a good long pause. Or Continuous twitching and it kind of pops out the water a little bit. When fish are hitting that, loads of fun ensues. Quote
Slipknot6 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I fish in WI and i use baby bass, baby bass, and pearl. All lakes clear water Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 26, 2011 Super User Posted June 26, 2011 I used to use Super Flukes, this year I use Strike Kings Caffine shad, and probably won't be going back to flukes. KVD Magic is my favorite color so far. They have the same erratic action as fluke, but they also have the wiggle on the fall like a Senko. I rig them on a 5/0 EWG super line hook, and thats just enough weight to keep them where I want them, plus they are heavier than a fluke to begin with. Durability however is not there strong suit. I have fished all day with 2 flukes, these are 2-3 fish baits........at best. Buying super glue is in your best intrest with the Caffine Shad. 2 Quote
BassThumb Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 They have the same erratic action as fluke, but they also have the wiggle on the fall like a Senko. That's what I noticed, too. The Caffeine Shad has a great action, in large part because of the flat underside to the tail that creates the Senko-like wobble as it begins to fall. They quickly became my favorite soft jerkbait after just a few good trips with them. They're also heavier than most and skip very well. The only downside is that they are not very durable. I could get away with just a few colors of soft jerkbaits: white, watermelon, and some kind of olive or Ark Shiner type color. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I'm up in the northeast too. My favorite color for zoom is by far glimmer blue. Last year a friend and I were fishing he was using pearl and even had a spray on scent I had glimmer blue and no scent . I out fished him 3 to 1 and it wasn't due to talent he's a good fisherman. I truly believe it was the glimmer blue, and can't believe I'm the only one to mention it so far. Honestly if not for glimmer blue I maybe would make a switch to the caffeine shad. Quote
joshholmes Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 i live in eastern new york and my favorite color has always been arkansas shiner Quote
WanderLust Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 match the hatch = win Although I've never seen a bubblegum colored baitfish. Maybe bass don't like chick colors. I like natural colors but pink does really seem to get the smallies excited from time to time. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 27, 2011 Super User Posted June 27, 2011 For many years my color preferences were "White Ice" & "Albino", but no matter how hard I try, I cannot make color make any difference at all. The next time you're in the midst of a hot fluke-bite, change the color after every bass and you will find that color has zero effect. When they're biting flukes, they'll bite all colors, when they're not biting flukes, they'll bite no color. With the gate wide open, be selfish and choose a color that appeals to 'you', and bass will like it too. I like a "bubblegum" fluke for its visibility, but also use black aurora, just because I like that pattern. Roger Quote
quanjig Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Disco violet on a scrounger.............. Dead sexy!! Quote
Brandon K. Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 All I've ever used is the white pearl. Tried switching to the Arkansas shiner and even the bubble gum colors. They didn't seem to have the same flexibility as the white ones. After that if I've wanted to add color I used dye or markers. Might just all be in my head though. Quote
Primus Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 As others have mentioned I'm also very impressed with the Caffiene Shad when your looking for a faster fall or more lively action, that said I still like the Super Fluke when I want more of a glide from the bait. Some of my favorite colors would include White Ice, Baby Bass & Watermelon. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 28, 2011 Super User Posted June 28, 2011 White Pearl Watermelon Seed Baby Bass Quote
