Cxx Is Out, Now What?

So I love, i mean LOVE 15lb cxx for my spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, however i just can't deal with the memory anymore. I'm looking for a new line that hopefully is as strong and tough as cxx, just a little more supple. I'm thinking about yozuri hybrid, mccoy mean grean, or whatever line you guys have to suggest, and i would especially love to hear from you who have used cxx and made the switch to something else. Thanks for your time!!!

Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength)

Izorline XXX Super Copolymer #12

Seaguar AbrazX #15 (.013" diameter)

I too have found cxx to have too much memory for my liking. I have used Yo-Zuri and like it but find it can have some memory also. Izorline XXX I find has less memory than the Yo-Zuri but has slightly less break strenth at the same diameter. My recomendation is Gamma copoly It is by far my favorite line and has a high break strenth with little memory. It is available once again since Black Knight has purchased the company.

Yea I'm really thinking about giving this Seaguar AbrasX a shot in 12# for cranking. I haven't use Seaguar since that carbon stuff(yellow package) I didn't like but that was on spinning gear.

I'll vote for Yozuri Hybrid...some tough stuff with very little memory, at least compared to CXX

Several years ago I made the same switch for the same reasons. After trying many lines I've settled on yo-zuri ultra soft for my 12lb. applications and seguar InvizX 15 lb.for all my 15lb applications. Both lines are very user friendly with the yo-zuri being a little softer, the invisX more abrasive resistant.

I made the switch to Yo Zuri 8# Hyb (green) and have been ultra happy. No problems and it's very strong.

No need to switch brands. Just apply KVD Line & Lure to fresh line, and after every trip. A few casts usually works out the coils. I'm using 25# CXX on a swimbait rig, and that line has to be 9 mos. old and it's still as fresh as day 1.

Silverthread Excaliber. Cabelas sells it in filler spools and bulk spools. The bulk spools are 3000 yards for approx. $45. It is a copolymer. My go to for most casting techniques. I have never had more confidence in a line with the exception of Yo Zuri Hydrid Ultra Soft, which I only use for spinning reels. BTW, Roadwarrior turned me on to the Yo Zuri stuff. Nobody has mentioned braid? As supple as it gets and all the strength you need in a tiny diameter. I recommend a quality braid such as Sufix 832, Sufix Performance braid, or Daiwa Samurai in the 10 # diameter.

I use 20# cxx with KVD line & lure conditioner and the line relaxes pretty well. I spray the spool down with the L&L about a half hour before my trip and it seems to work.

I have to go with Rob G on this one. The Silver Thread Excalibur is awesome. I have used this for a few years and find it hard to beat.

I prefer Yo-Zuri over P-Line CXX any day, even when treated with KVD L&L. I have been trying Suffix Seige for the past month and am really liking this line as well.

Try a filler spool of 12lb Excalibur, you can get it at Cabelas. It's strong,supple and abrasion resistant . Not to mention reasonably inexpensive.

Ditto on the KVD Line and Lure applied after every trip. It works much better than applying it at the beginning of trips.

If 15# CXX is too stiff, you could always downsize to 10 or 12# tests. 12# CXX or Yo Zuri Hybrid is my line of choice for spinnerbaits.

I vote for the Yo Zuri Hybrid. No matter what I try I keep coming back to it - 12 lb test for baitcaster and 8 lb test for the spinning rigs.

If you're using spinning tackle, I can understand why line-memory might be an issue.

In any case, if memory is the issue then Braided Line is the best solution.

In addition to manageability, braid gives you the strongest, thinnest line available. How bad is that?

Whether it's made of Nylon, Fluorocarbon or Copolymer, "all" monofilament lines exhibit springback.

In my opinion, the most manageable monofilament line available is Berkley Trilene XL.

I’ve used it for decades, and if polyethylene braid was never introduced I'd still be using Trilene XL.

The toughest mono I’d go with is Sufix Elite, which is great stuff, but beyond that you might as well stick with CXX.

keep the line you love, and get some Real Magic. I was having some memory issues with the CXXX and after a couple of sprays, it was coming off the reel like braid. Love that Real Magic stuff, lets me keep using the line I love

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is much stiffer imo than the CXX. I switched from Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 8# and 12# over to P-Line Floroclear and have been very happy with it so far. It is much more limber. I went to 6# CXX on my ML spinning setup and although it is VERY limber, it does have terrible memory after two weeks! I'd like to try Yo-Zuri ultrasoft.
