egolfer Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I too use all the above baits. However, I put a split-ring on the baits. I use one that fits snug around the bait and run the hook through the ring. It helps me catch more fish on the bait before it rips. Quote
RandySBreth Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Wacky rigging works. Just try to match the hook to the lure size. Weedless helps, too. Check your P.M.s topwater.va Quote
mike304 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 If you fish in heavy cover or around a lot of trees, I've had good luck with 5" senko's on a Mustad W37754R Ultra Point Weedless Wacky Worm Hook. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 18, 2009 Super User Posted June 18, 2009 Wacky rigging is VERY effective. Do a search on this site and you will find loads of techniques and specific equipment you can use. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 If you fish in heavy cover or around a lot of trees, I've had good luck with 5" senko's on a Mustad W37754R Ultra Point Weedless Wacky Worm Hook X2 this my go to. 1/0 is plenty big with this type hook. it also consistently hooks them in the corner of the mouth i use an o-ring. i have caught 15 LMB on one senko. good luck!! topwater.va Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Thanks for the feedback wacky rigging is something that i have really wanted try out lately on the local lake. has anyone heard anything good about/used the Strike Kings Ocho? i was reading about it and wondered if anyone has some feedback on it Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 wacky rigged senkos are my go to when nothing else works, and often what I use all day. I usually use a 5" worm, color doesn't really matter. When my buddy first told me about the "wacky rig" i thought he was playing a joke on me, I said that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard lol. Little did I know that i would be instantly hooked, no pun intended! Quote
5151 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 So after the initial fall, how do you work it in 5-6' of water, do you pull up slowly and then let fall again? Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 19, 2009 Super User Posted June 19, 2009 Should be noted that you can do the wacky thang..by either freelining, i.e. no weight, or a favorite way for me is to dropshot..wacky style..Freelining, I lift my rodtip on a couple of inches, every 15-30 seconds..when dropshoting, Always have contact with the bottom when you lift the rodtip up. That's not to say that you can't bring up the worm more than 2-3 inches, it's whatever works for you. Quote
BenoBreath Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 So after the initial fall, how do you work it in 5-6' of water, do you pull up slowly and then let fall again? After the initial fall, I let it sit on the bottom. Literally. I let the bait sit, for 2-4 min. without moving it. (deadsticking) When I do move it, I lift the bait up a few inches, and let it flutter back down. Then I let sit some more. Strikes are detected when you feel a "tap" or see your line move off in any direction. I've caught alot of quality bass using this method. PATIENCE is the key here. Give it a try. You'll be surprised. Good Luck ! BB Quote
JacobK Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 also when i'm too lazy to flip/pitch a jig i'll flip a weightless wacky rigged senko into pockets. but SHHHHHHHH don't tell anyone its one of my favorite things to do. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 So after the initial fall, how do you work it in 5-6' of water, do you pull up slowly and then let fall again? if you hold it in the water next to you, and jiggle the rod up and down a little (so you can see the senko and what it does) you'll see that it kinda flops and twiches, looks like something is dying which the bass love. There's a ton of ways to fish the wacky senko, what I normally do is throw it out there, depending on how they're biting sometimes i'll let it fall on a slack line and hit the bottom, or sometimes i'll flip the bail as soon as it hits the water and give it a few tugs so it twiches on the way down. after it sits on the bottom for a little bit (few seconds, or as long as you want) give it a few twiches, which will give it that good motion, then le t it sink back down. It has a heavier feel wacky style, I find it easier to drag along the bottom and know what you're hitting. Quote
