Jim McC Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Mine seems to have lost power, and it's not the battery. What can I check? I don't know much about them. It's a Minn Kota, 40 lb. thrust transom model. I think it's about 15 years old. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted June 20, 2011 Super User Posted June 20, 2011 The brushes are probably worn out. Quote
Jim McC Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Thanks. I called a Minn Kota service center and they told me there's nothing I can do to improve the problem. They also said the motors usually last 8-10 years. Quote
Under the Radar Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 IS it possible that over time you may have picked up some fish line or vegetation inside the hub of your prop? I have to pull my prop about every other trip to clear debris from under it. Sometimes it's line and others it's vegetation. Quote
Daniel Rodriguez Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I think you got your money's worth...i was hoping i'd get two years out of mine...guess i have to raise my expectations greatly!! good news.. Quote
surfer Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 The permanent magnets will loose strength. Kinda makes you wonder why they are called permanent. Quote
Jim McC Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 I'm going to buy a new one, a 55 lb transom mount. I tried to order one from Walmart.com, but it won't let me choose between the 36" and 42" shaft. What the hell? And there's no phone # to call anywhere on their website. Quote

Jim McC Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Sue them, just don't make it a class action lawsuit! I found a number to call for Walmart.com and spoke to someone. After going back and forth for 10 minutes, she couldn't help me. There's no way to choose between the 36" shaft and 42" shaft. Great website design. Quote
jdw174 Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Check on Amazon. Their pricing may be just as good as Wallyworld and I imagine it would qualify for free shipping. Quote
