WFUbassmaster Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Hey guys... the FLW College Series Regional Championship is coming up and it on Sayers Lake in Bald Eagle State Park in PA... Does anyone have any info on this lake??? The tournament is Sept 1-3 but I plan to go up and practice some next weekend... Please provide any info because I have never been there and the internet doesn't have much info on it... Thanks guys... Quote
ben23 Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I know Sayers very well. A dropshot buzzbait rigged with a 20/0 circle hook usually does the trick for spawning pikefish. Good luck in your tournament. Watch out for those NC State fisherman they will probably have a basket. Quote
WFUbassmaster Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 After a day on the water practicing it appears that the smallies can often be taken using live muskellunge as bait... for the largemouths you have to step up and purchase fresh sturgeon from the west coast... both of these should be fished in 6-8 inches of water on 1/32 ounce flick shakes... thanks for you advice though Ben... Im definitely going to have to look for those baskets come tournament day... freakin Basspack kids Quote
btm137 Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 I have fished there many times over the years. It is not my home lake, but I know it pretty well. By the time you guys fish, it will absolutely be the toughest time of the entire year. Expect the weights to be low, like 6-7 lbs a day for the event could win the whole thing!! It is a total structure lake, no grass to amount to anything. There is some shallow water fishing in the southern end of the lake in bald eagle creek, but other than that, it is pretty much a carolina rigging, jig dragging and crankbait deal. There are some giants in there, if someone is lucky enough to get one or two, it could shake some things up. Quote
Dinkleslivewell Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 This is my home lake an I will say the bass fishing here would put up a challenge for the best bass master!! I use plastics there all the time an if they fail a jig will be thrown if u don't catch anything on those two baits pack it up!! You can throw a spinnerbait some guys get lucky but ur only catchin 1.5 or less if ur lucky!!! But yes structer fish find the three road beds an there's some stumpy an rocky areas here an there! One more thing if ur bank fishing stay in about 20 ft of water casting in an work it slow with a lift here an there! Hope this helps me an my partner will be fishing the same day good luck. Quote
Ginger Cox Dixon Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 used to have a decent amount of largemouth.. more than the smallies.. then lmpv hit and there are more smallmouth than largemouth.. seems to be coming back now everyone is catching small 5 to 8 inch bass while crappie fishing so thats a good sign. caught largemouth up to 5lb and smallies up to almost 4 but never any trophy class fish. thats just me though i'm sure locals who fish it more often could speak better of the lake i only go there about five times a year Quote
