Wild Bill [NY] Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Been absent from here for some time due to a lot of activities, many which were volunteer fund-raising. I have becomea life-long volunteer for the American Cancer Society, and have been involved this year witha few fund-raisiers for them, requiring MUCH of my time. First, I was on the planning and staging commitee to bring "Relay for Life" to my small villageof Malverne, NY on Long Island. We raised over $25,000 at this innaugural event held in our town, I am very proud to report. "Relay for Life" memorializes those that we have lost due to Cancer, honors those tht have fought it and beat it, and supports those currently battling Cancer. My wife is a nine-year survivor of Breast Cancers that had spread into her Lymph Nodes. First surgery, then 6 months of Chemo... Thank God, she survived it all, and now she and I do much counselling and volunteer fund-raising for the ACS. My second big time consumer was I hosted the second annual "Fish for the Cure" fishing tourney on Candlewood Lake on June 3rd, and we raised over $6100 that day as 23 teams of Bass anglers brought their best five fish to the scales. On top of that, my life has entered anew stage, that of being a grandfather, something that thrills me to no end, and has brought great happiness to me. Sweet little Gabriella is the apple of my eyes now, and gets much of my attention [and time]. I want to wish you all a HAPPY FATHERS DAY !! Quote
