I know this has probably been posted many times before:

Looking for a new spinning or casting rod, still undecided at which I need more, under $50

I was looking at the BPS Graphite series, BPS Tourney Series and Berkley Lightning Rod Shock.

An Abu Garcia Vengeance might be another rod to look at. under 50 dollars they're really isn't alot of quality rods.

Here was a topic for a decent rod which most recommended the Lightning rod.

Another suggestion maybe for spinning look into Gander Mountains tournament rods. Hey they even got the spinning combos going for $64

I have an older model I use for wacky which I love.

Or if got any near store like BPS go see their bargain bins. Might have some clearance items with an extra percentage off from mark down price. I bought a spinning 7'M Browning Citori rod for $40 when originally $99.

I actually like the Lightning Shock series. I keep it as a loaner for guest boaters that don't have their own set ups with them, and every one of them loved it. I don't think you can beat it in the sub-$50 range.

Yeah, I would have to agree with Grey Wolf. Go with the Berkley Lightings.

The regular Lightning rod , stay away from the Shock. :)

Aside from a $10 price difference, what are the main differences between the two?

The Shock is very wimpy and only good for small cranks. I own one and just don't like it as well as the regular lightning rod which has more backbone and a faster action.

the shock was made for using braid the wimpyness is suppose to be there for the purpose of lighter hooksets hence the name shock ;)

I think he is referring to the weak rod and has possibly confused the Amp with the Shock? I own the Amp and it was super inexpensive and I really like it. I will agree though it is not good for much except crankbait fishing. But for $40 shipped to my door I can't complain. It gets used every time I hit the water.

On the other hand, I also own a Lightning. I use it as a worm/jig rod it seems to me to be a bit stiffer than it's labeled, but for under $50 it's pretty solid.

You might want to check out Dick's and take a look at the Field & Stream Tec Spec line of rods. They are normally $59.99 but there is usually a coupon online for $10.00 off the rods. I have the Tube/Jig rod and its a great rod and I use it for larger topwaters with great success.

I have three LR's that I still use-one spinning. I find the actions to be great for lures you don't need a lot of sensitivity for. I got two on sale for $20 when they were switching to a new grip style.

The LR Shock makes a decent rod for frogs 6.6 or 7.0 mh with braid . can't beat it for 50 bucks.

The LR 6.6 mh makes a good spinner bait rod.I use it alot no complaints.

My spinning rod is a Daiwa Laguna 7' ML/XF I picked up at academy on clearance for $15 and I adore it.

He's been gone from the forums since 2012, just fyi so you're not waiting for a response.
