Hello everyone,

First time poster, so my apologies if I'm breaking a forum rule or two, but I searched for similar topics and only got tid bits within responses. My question is "Are there any Bass fishers out there that primarily use a fly fishing set up?" I'm new to the world of bass fishing, having only caught a few large-mouth, a few white, and a few striper (22lb-er on Beaver lake a while back) and any advice on how to get started fishing for large mouth and the FLY fishing set ups y'all use would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Bass Resource forum

I've done a good deal of fly-fishing for bass, but haven't done so in years. My most productive lure by far

was a floating "deer hair bass bug". Unfortunately I got sidetracked by catching bull frogs on bass bugs,

which have highly acidic saliva. By the following season my bass bugs fell apart and the hackles were lying in my tackle box :angry:

I fly fished for bass almost 100% many years ago. We fished a small lake in S. W. Michigan where the largies didn't seem to want anything but a cork and feather bass size popper. I am sure it is still an effective method. When the fish move off the bank and suspend or go deep fly fishing becomes less efficient.

I think a fly fishing forum would be a nice addition to BR.

X2, I'd love to see a fly fishing for bass forum.

I fly cast for bass on nearly every fishing trip. I use a 7 weight rig with WF7F World Wide Angler salt water fly line, sky blue color. This line casts well in wind and is designed for hot weather and warm water. My favorite bass flies are available from the BPS online catalog;

1. Enrico Puglisi Pin Fish, 1/0

2. Enrico Puglisi Peanut Butter in chartreuse and white, 1/0

3. Rainey's Bubblehead popper, silver/blue scale pattern, 1/0

4. Rainey's Bubblehead popper, black (night fishing), 1/0

Hope this helps some. Happy fly fishing!
