Help A Me Out With Middle Of The Day Fishing?

So was out in the kayak yesterday at about 8am till 1pm. I caught 2 but had many bites. I take the blame for the missed bites though. Anyways, at about 10:30ish, the bites stopped. I fished for a while longer using a flick shake thinking a lighter more finesse presentation would help. Still nothing. Not even on a Rage Craw in bama craw color worked past 10:30 (which is what I've been getting bites and catching them on)! So when the sun gets way up there and it starts getting hotter...do they just shut down till the evening? I know they are there because I can catch them during the afternoon period but the bite is slower than a crawl.

This is one from yesterday, was using Rage craw(bama) with a keel weighted hook and buzzing it along the surface, thing hit like dynamite!

go deeper and stay slow. how deep is this lake? are you able to locate a creek channel?

It's not a lake, more like a creek off of lake st. clair. The middle of it is probably 10-15 ft deep and gets shallower at the edges and is very weedy all over. So instead of fishing the edges of the water, go to the middle with some jigs or bigger plastics?

Yes stay in the middle and head toward the creek opening fish slow and fish deep, bounce the jig off of the bottom (count your bounces...if they hit on the third one for example keep repeting that) or try swimming it.

If that doesn't work try some other deep or deeper water tactics or simply head toward the shore and cast toward deeper water and bring the bait toward you.

Believe it or not, but I experimented last year and the majority of the fish I caught at high noon was on a burning single leaf spinnerbait. Blade size was changed to 1/2 or 1 size smaller. Jigs, nothing, tubes a few, but a fast moving spinnerbait....Jackpot.

Maybe a front had moved through and the air pressure changed. Your picture looks like you had bright bluebird skies and calm water, that's just going to make for tough fishing. If that's the case I'd either go really slow finesse fishing or speed it up and look for a reaction bite with a crank or spinnerbait.

Don't forget about drop shoting those finesse worms, always good midday under a blue sky and hot sun

I always go out during that time of the day on lunch break and wide wobble cranks and white spinners seem to be my ticket

The midday hours between 10 am and 3 pm and not well-noted for numbers of bass,

but in my experience at least, they often produce some of the "largest" bass (other species as well).

Differently put, when I hear about a 50-bass day, it invariably conjures the image of four dozen 1-lb bass.

On balance, Quantity and Quality make odd bedfellows and for this reason, whenever my wife and I

are experiencing midday doldrums, I'll usually remind her that we may be on the brink of a wall-hanger

With all those weeds I'd try and throw something right at the edge or drop a weedless plastic right down in that junk because a lot of times bass will hide under that stuff to get away from the sun. Your best bet is to fish a little slower and in deeper water though.

Most of my big girls are caught mid-day. I think slow, even to the point of dead-sticking is a pretty deadly technique.

Alright so went out today and caught three +3 pounders from about 10am-12pm. My first one was caught in a pocket that was along the edge of some weed mats. I paddle up to the pocket and noticed minnows swimming in the pockets. Also, when i caught one fish, it had one of the minnows in it's mouth.

So, im not sure if it's a pattern or not, but i looked for those pockets everywhere, and everywhere i was catching a fish, not all huge but fish indeed. Kind of the first time I have ever developed a real strategy based on THAT day. Usually I just cast to spots i think are good. Instead of spots that I knew where producing.

A great day for fish and a great learning experience.

I also caught a, what I think was, about 30in muskie. He got to the side of the kayak and shook off, which I was fine with because I really didn't want to take him off the hook from a kayak.
