I also use the palomar knot, but only for dropshots with 8# Seaguar InvizX, I have not had a problem yet. But with my jig rod using Trilene 100% 20# flouro, the palomar would not hold, neither would the improved clinch. So far, I found the Uni Knot is the only one I tested that has not once broken at the knot with that 20#.

The Uni knot is the only knot I use anymore. I've never had it slip, break or anything. Even with braid.

The best part is its so easy to do i could do it with my toes if i had to.

Works for me.

Saw this link and tried it, immediately all of my problems went away. Not sure if it was mainly because I got rid of all my Vanish (went to P-Line Flouroclear) or if the knot is way better. Either way, had zero problems since switching to this knot.

Thought I'd chime in, though a few days late...

I snell every hook with exception of hooks with weed guards for plastics. Here's a

way to tie the snell. I should add that the snell in the video looks a little lumpy, probably due to the line he's using to teach with, mine turn out clean. And depending on the lb test, I'll wrap between 5 and 10 times (more wraps for the lighter line).

I use this with Seaguar, BPS XPS fluoro, and non-fluoro lines with 100% confidence. Am now proficient enough tying it in my kayak fighting white caps out on the water.

I tie the snell on hooks from size 4 gamakatsu split shot/drop shot to 5/0 worm hooks straight and offset. Don't tighten down all the way until you've slipped the knot past the bend.

The snell pulls against the shank of the hook, and IMO allows for a superb hook set. Google it and you'll find quite a few pros are using the snell for hooks with soft plastics.

The other knot I use is palomar, and as J Francho said, properly tied.

I use the palomar and improved clinch with no problems. The fish in my avatar was caught on 12lb fluoro with a palomar knot.

Edit:

I also pulled this fish up with a plastic grocery bag that had mud and water in it.
