Twice, at dusk or just before dusk in a channel between an island and a point I and my friend have both thrown ribbon tails. Power bait to be specific. And both times we've felt a slight twitch, like a pick up, 2.5 seconds after setting the hook, snap. I have 10lb flouro on. He has 30lb braid, the only thing about his braid is that one of his eyelets on his rod is knicking his line and he continued to fish it anyways.

I want to catch this fish. I was thinking maybe it's a big cat, or just a massive bass but it's gotta be big to snap my line so quickly. And it's happened in the same spot twice around the same time so I know it's pattern. It shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine.

What kind of knot are you tying? It could be something as simple as knot wetting it enough...There are plenty of things it could be, but most of my snapping issues were due to these problems.

I tie a solid clinch knot, I always give it a little bit of saliva when I tie the knot. I'm confident in my knots. I'm thinking it might be rubbing against the log we're fishing near and nicking the line. But I still have confidence it's a big fish.

Any of the fish in the waters have teeth like Muskellung or Chain Pickrel????

Have you considered the Palamor Knot?

Do you think changing to an anti-abrasive line, like Trileen XT, would help?

How about going up in line test?

If your knot is not failing then something is cutting the line and now you have the quest thrown upon you to find out what it is and let us know.

Good luck. :)

P.S. Change your line and use fresh line when you go back to the "spot."

Make sure there are not knicks or cuts in the line, too. ;)

Yes there are chain pickerel in the lake, so it is possible. As far as Trilene goes, I'm a little shaky on the idea. I've heard bad things about it. But I will change my line out. I'll give the Palomar knot a try.

Thanks all for the input

Yep, most likely big fish with big teeth. The longnose gar do that to me a lot. Tie on a SS leader and let us know what it was.
