Daiwa Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Sorry about this question guys but i need to know. Last year I spend alot of money on fly fishing stuff. I still have m rod, and one day I want to get it set back up. But I want to keep away from it on my vacation (i might bring it, dont know yet) I just wanted to know if I could take my flys, and throw them with a regular rod and reel, for about 3-5 feet range, off a dock, from crappies and panfish? Would this work, or be a dumb idea? Quote
mrlitetackle Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 i have only dabbled the slightest of bits in fly fishing myself..... but i do know that the flies that i used were ridiculously tiny and light..... seems to me if you have a regular outfit that is equipped to toss these a moderate distance, you'll be ok...... it may not be the best option, or the best action for the flies....... but you will stand a chance nonetheless........ albeit, a smaller one. VolFan Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Google "Fly and Bubble". People use them all the time out West to fish flies on spinning equipment. Cheap and easy to use. Quote
Mottfia Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 any rod will do. Simple use the good ole Flipping technique to send it out that distance. You will not be able to cast the lure at all with most any bass setup but the flip will work with any setup. if by some chance the lure is too light for the flip, you can pull the line out like you are going to flip but perform an over head cast, releasing the line at the right timing to send the lure out. Hope this helps Mottfia Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 9, 2009 Super User Posted June 9, 2009 I use to throw a spinning rig with flies and a small bubble...works just fine. Quote

Daiwa Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 Thanks guys, I am reading about it now. At the Resort we are staying at, there are huge crappies and panfish, and come 17-20 inch bass roaming the shallows about 1-5 feet from the dock. I want to try the bubble, but im also bringing my fly rod with, because my dad Oked me taking the boat out by myself. I am still a little confuzed about the bubble. Will I beable to find one at Gander Mountain? Thanks alot guys! Josh. Quote
