LeBron_Hill Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I figured that since this was in regards to towing my boat that it would fit in here...I have a 2006 dodge 3500 dually that I have been towing my 16ft stratos with (yeah its overkill). I have it up for sale and I am going to be in the market for another truck. I have been looking at 2007-2009 Toyota Tundra pickups. I would want the one with the 5.7l engine. I have heard many stories about the fuel mileage on these trucks. Some people say they get 14 mpg and some say that they get 19 mpg. Would like to get some input from some actual Tundra owners...If you guys dont mind post up the fuel mileage that ur truck gets (city/hwy) and the specs on your truck like year, 2wd/4wd, gear ratio, towing package, etc. Thanks alot guys. LeBron, I have a 2008 Tundra Limited, 4x4, 5.7L, tow pkg., don't know the gear ratio, 3" lift kit, 35" tires. If I drive normal and don't accelerate aggressively at take off I get 12.5 to 13.5 MPG. If I drive it slightly hard that drops to about 11.5 to 12.5 MPG. If I baby it I can get about 13.5 to 14.5 MPG. Towing the boat (16.5' Tracker) it gets about 11.5 MPG. These figure are based on driving a combination of city and highway. The truck has plenty of power to tow a much heavier load but I don't know how bad it will impact the mileage. Triton21 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I have a 2005 and get 15-16 mpg at highway speeds empty. I get around 13-14 mpg towing my TR-21 at highway speeds. I towed it to Lake Fork and to Michigan from Southern Illinois without a problem. Kelley Quote

If the 385hp isn't enough, you can get a factory installed TRD supercharger which ups the hp rating to 500hp and doesn't void the warranty. Don't know anyone with a Tacoma but I've known a couple people with the 4runner that will attest to 15-16mpg hwy. I don't know why you guys are getting such low mileage #'s Highway driving I get 18-19mpg with the cruise control on at 55-60mph(according to the trip computer, I haven't calculated it myself). Between 70-75mph it drops to 14-15mpg. I just purchased new tires with an LT rating. The original had a P rating. haven't been on a long trip yet to see if there is any difference. Quote

I think you may have just answered your own question about the miles per gallon figure . . . rate of travel. Quote

Years ago, a dirty filter would make an engine run rich because it boosted manifold vacuum and sucked in more gas from the carburetor while getting less air into the engine. Today, sensors measure how much air volume is taken in, and meters the appropriate amount of fuel for optimum efficiency. A K&N or other better flowing filter will enhance performance, but have very little if any affect on fuel mileage. From what I've read on google searches, even K&N only claims better performance while remaining mum about better mileage. Injectors can dramatically affect mileage if they are spitting droplets of fuel rather than injecting a fine mist. Quote

When purchasing this vehicle I really wanted a Tundra, but would "settle" for a 4Runner. Just depended on what deal came along first. 4Runner deal popped up first of course . Quote
