FordNFishinLover Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Howdy yall, addin another set-up to my arsenal right now. Im looking for a good drop shotting or any finesse fishing spinning reel setup. I somewhat have an idea of what id like to get already, just thought id ask around on here and see what yall are using, or your thoughts on what i should get. Im not totally biased on certain brands and such, but i've always been mainly a shimano and daiwa user. As for reel, im really leaning more towards a shimano spinning. The three i've been looking are the Shimano Saros, Symetre, or Sahara. I have an older sahara and its a tough ol reel just a bit on the heavy side. The new saharas feel quite a bit lighter and i really liked how they felt in my hands. An i've heard some great reviews on the saros. So im kinda caught up on which one i want. (BTW, do you feel that the 1000 size would be too small? Is it more of a panfishin reel or would it work good for my application?) As for rod, im a bit more free on. Please bring opinions on this as im always into trying a new rod/reel. The only rod i've had my eyes set on is a shimano crucial (Prob a 7'2 ML drop shot model). I have one I use for my t-rig worms/plastics that I love. Please though for any suggestions a GOOD warranty is a must (which is why i like the crucials so much for their lifetime warrantys), because i can be alittle rough on rods at times and accidents do happen. Sorry for the long post, and looking forwards too some suggestions! Thanks fellas. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 12, 2011 Super User Posted June 12, 2011 My DS rig is usually a Clarus 7' MF with a stradic, or sahara 2500 reel, and 8lb yozuri ultrasoft line. So far for the last couple of years, I've had good luck with it. I think the crucial would be even better with any of the reels you listed. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 It sounds like your gut choices listed are pretty much right on. I have both the Soros and the Symetre. I could not happier with both models. The Symetre is on my DS rod, a 7' Lamiglas model, no longer in production. I too am a fan of Yozuri in 6 or 8 test. My son-in-law has a Crucial and it is a very nice stick. I found my Symetre 2500 for 59.99 on an in store special. Find a deal like that and you can money up for the Crucial and have yourself dialed in. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 13, 2011 Global Moderator Posted June 13, 2011 I've got the 6' 8" ML crucial dropshot rod and it is a very nice rod for dropshots but a little light for some other finesse rigs like a shakeyhead. The 7' 2" ML version seemed a little stouter though and would probably work fine for you. I think you would find the 2500 size reel a better option as far as size but the model is pretty much up to how much you want to spend, they are all good reels that would suit what you want to do with them. jdw174 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I use a 7' Lamiglas Excel spinning rod, med action w/lots of tip action. Sahara 2500 spooled with 20lb Power Pro and a 10lb co-poly leader. Works great. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 13, 2011 Super User Posted June 13, 2011 I use a 7'2" Crucial with a 2500 Sahara mounted on it for all of my DS and lightweight stuff. Couldn't be happier with that combo. Quote
