Rage Lobster

Man, i really do not like to advertise or toot some products horn but had quite an interesting experience the other day while on vacation in Minnesota. I was using a rage lobster as my trailer for a jig in colder water 59 degrees and was not having much luck with the water temps. A few days later, we finally found a lake that was 65 degrees and the bass were shallow. I was last in the boat. Meaning my brother had the trolling motor, brother in law in the middle, and i was last since this was the particular rotation we were in for that morning. Usually how it goes is the last person in the back gets about 1/10 the amount of fish as the person in the front and 1/5 as the person in the middle. This is how it has always been in our spring trips. Well, my brother was working the trolling motor real slow meaning i was having the 12th cast to any spot i chose which sucks since i was my time to be in the back. We were all using jigs this day 3/8-1/2 oz due to the faster winds we had to deal with. After a slow beginning for all, i decided to switch to mr. Lobster as my trailer. The other two stuck with their pork trailers. All of a sudden, it was lights out for me. It really did not matter where i casted, i was getting so many bites. Within the hour, i had missed about 20 (due to them jumping and shaking it-they were in a jumping mood), i landed 16, middle of the boat landed 1, and front of the boat landed 3. We were not fishing an island but the shoreline where the first cast mattered. It was wonderful!!! Plus i had one over 5 and 2 over 4 at this point. I mean i would cast in their exact spot even while there jig was there and i would get the fish. I was running out of lobsters so i couldn't share so they put on more of a reaction type bait like a spinnerbait and started catching them then to keep me in check and then my bite started to dwindle since i had the last cast and they caught everything prior. But man, it was neat to see that. Same size, same color, but different kickin legs!!! I have caught em on the lobster before but this was worth tippin the hat to BIG O on this.

Now that sounds like the Lobster I know and hhow it can smack someone down!

Just imagine how hard it is to catch a fish behind Big O when he throws it, lol.

Just a side note: if you are ever flippin' for fish with Big O, you can choose the bait before him, he won't throw the same thing. You might want to choose a lobster in Falcon before him, lol.

Although this info is not what many have preached in the past, it's my opinion from 40 yrs of jig fishing along with fishing both in front of and behind the best in the business that the additional action just makes'em eat it faster! I believe in colder conditions when fish are more dormant, it is the speed that the fisherman moves his bait or the speed that he covers any given piece of water that determines his bite success and not a slower action of his chosen bait. When you find fish in colder conditions, it's important to be close to them with the presentation for a slightly longer period of time to allow them to become more aware of its presence and any additional action of your bait will only speed up this process. In fact, once a given group of fish are disturbed by one getting caught, the rest of them are not just awake, but eager to eat! It's all about disturbing their slumber enough to get them to strike and high action on slow presentation baits does exactly that... again IMO.

If you watch the next Brauer Bass Battles show where Denny and Chad are in fishing extremely cold conditions... notice that Denny is catching them on jig n Rage Trailer as well as other fast moving and noisy baits that disturb the fish. Pls don't think that I am trying to change your opinion but moreover hope you to look at the past thought processes, types of plastics that were available to the market that had no action other than what we could achieve through our rod tip movement. Also look at the variety of popular cold water baits that are effective. Then we ask ourselves why. A perfect example is Rattletrap style baits that can be heard from extreme distances that disturb a bass' slumber from afar only to get smashed when it arrives in her domain... She is alerted previously from the noise and vibration that is coming ever closer bringing her out of her slumber and SHE EATS IT. How fast was the action on that bait?

I only wish that I knew way back then what I think I know now And if I had your talent at that same age, I might be a much smarter and better fisherman...
