Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 7, 2011 Super User Posted June 7, 2011 For three years I couldn't get a bass to strike a buzzbait and it used to be such a great tool for me, not to mention a lot of fun to fish with. This past weekend I decided to ponder why this virus has plagued me and other anglers I know, for so long. I fish spinnerbaits a lot and figured out that close to 90% of my spinnerbait bites come on a gold blade, not a nickel blade. I decided to mute the buzzbait down by painting the blade white. I also looked back at my buzzbait catches and found that most of them came on a lime green and black skirted buzzbait. So I switched out the skirt to a watermelon candy over a few strands of pearl Instead of all white. I tried it out at lunch time for an hour and BINGO, bass were hitting it again. I only managed 2) 1.5 lbers and three other boils, but none of the less, it was 2 more than I had in three years. I'm not gonna preach here that the changes I made were a direct result of bass hitting it again, but I can at least have confidence in using the blasted things again. Quote
fmoore Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 If you have confidence in it, you're going to catch fish. I love buzzbaits Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 9, 2011 Super User Posted June 9, 2011 I agree, confidence is a huge deal in this type of situation. As to the bass actually hitting it, there could probably be any number of reasons and one of those possibilities could be the changes you made, but we'll never know. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 12, 2011 Author Super User Posted June 12, 2011 I was happy just to get a bite on a buzzbait after 3 years. It was getting to a point where i was making maybe 10 casts with it before I switched it out for another type of topwater. Got some more since my last post, so far so good. Thanks for your support guys. Quote
PondBoss Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I never catch fish on Buzzbaits, granted I hardly ever fish them. I did try one the other day and managed a handful of fish and missed a couple others. I have to say I'm looking forward to fishing it in the future, especially with a couple Jigfishn10 is sending me Quote
