Well fellas im pretty ticked. Finally bought a set of sunglasses that were sposed to be worthy of paying 230 bucks. bought a pair of costa del mars with the 580 p glass with permit frames at a hunting expo. Dropped the frames from thigh height while teaching and it landed on the lens. Spiderwebbed the whole frame! now they want 100 bucks to repair them. i was told these are impact resistant. GUESS NOT!. Biggest piece of junk ever. Couldnt believe that glass would splinter from a height of 24 inches.. DO NOT BUY. Cant wait to make this phone call tomorrow to tell them where to shove their glasses. impact resistant I disagree. now its gonna costa me!!! well see how their rep deals with this. to be continued ...

Buy Costa Del Mars and they will COSTA YOU!

Maybe you should stick with the non-glass lenses.

I would be ticked too if the polycarbonate lenses broke on me. I've only had the 580 glass lenses and had 2 pair crack from drops. I will just say they do break easy but clarity in the glass keeps me buying them. I've had friends who boycott them then later get another pair because they just couldn't find anything as good.

Thats the main reason I stayed away from glass I read quite a few reports(over months and months and months of research) of the COSTA glass breaking even on minimal distance falls like yours. They do now have 580P plastic lens but not in mirrored styles. I actually tried the Permit and would have bought those but for the breakage. Im not easy on glasses drop squish bang hit them often so went plastic but another brand.

All I can advise is get a COSTA leash they are nice and will give that extra protection from drops/falling.

I think he has the glass though he did write "580 p glass" which was a bit confusing the 580P lens is plastic.

Odd, I dropped my Fathom's from a height of 16' directly on the concrete, and they don't have a mark. That said...it's a glass lens. I would fully expect that my lens would have shattered and I would have been the one to pay for fixing them. IMO, you really don't have a leg to stand on in terms of warranty. If someone told you, and you believed, that any glass lens is "impact resistant" there's a lot to be said. Glass impact resistance does not mean that they are ANSI rated. It means that they won't shatter in your eye if an object with great enough surface area hits the lens squarely, not on edge, and not with any sort of piercing point. By the way, a grain of sand on concrete is a piercing object.

Seriously, I'm not meaning to come off as rude or argumentative, but I think your anger is misdirected.

I agree, he dropped his glasses and broke them, now he's PO'ed at Costa. You should feel lucky they are fixing them for $100 and not telling you to pound salt, I am not sure if "owner stupidity" should be covered by warranties, but many companys do just to avoid a hassle.

Dropped glass and it broke? I'm shocked.

Seriously though. Im sorry that happened to you. Same thing happened to me with my iPhone on the second day I had it. Hard pill to swallow. Not Costas fault though.
