airborne_angler Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Ive seen all sorts of tackle companies with thier own style ringworm. Whats the appeal of these baits. Do the ribs put off vibration or are the ribs something of a texture issue that keep the fish holding on? Never understood these, can anyone shed some light? Quote
aarogb Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I have always heard that the rings around the bait gives off some kind of vibration the bass can pick up with their special sensors or something like that. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 I love ringworms. The BPS version is one of my favorite, and is scented with Yum attractant. They are great for split shotting and light texas rig work. Use a 1/0 or #1 hook with the 4" worm. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 Luck E Strike also makes a ring worm with a longer, ribbon style tail, in both 4" and 6" sizes. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 never cared for them , with the addition of ribs , they make the worm too skinny , there for they rip too easy when you rig it even with a medium wire EWG hook . i tried the POWERBAIT ones but quickly went back to the regular powerworms .. Super User Catt Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 The rings give the illusion of a fatter profile with less plastic for the hook to penetrate; the rings also feel softer to the bass which means the hold on longer. Throw the EWG hooks away then switch to straight shank round bends Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 the rings are there so when the worm is tossed in the water the space between the ribs creates small bubbles (like crawfish and fish give off) which inturn attracts a predator fish to strike. Quote
Primus Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 A few years back my go to rig for summer fishing was a 4" power ringworm on a 3/16 oz mojo rig, great rig for numbers. I haven't used it as much in recent years but I have not doubt that this will still produce. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted June 14, 2009 Super User Posted June 14, 2009 Some are molded with the rings connected by a thin membrane of plastic, the good ones are not. The good ones, such as the Producto Spring Worm, are extremely flexible. Fragile, yes, but the action is great. I like using them on a 3/32 oz Gopher Mushroom head for jigging above deep vegetation in clear water lakes. Quote
