Hey guys im gonna post this link from craigslist. I talked to this guy and he told me he'd take $5500 for it. I havent seen it in person, but assuming the transom looks good and she runs good, should i jump on this. I've heard the older tidecrafts were poorly made but im just sittin here thinkin, that motor is probably worth 5k. Some opinions or insights would be great guys! Thanks.

My guess is that it's underpowered. At 22.5ft long with only a 200HP on it, it's probably on the low end of what it's capable of. Also, check the hours on the motor, ask for a compression check, see if there's any warranty info from Merc, and see if they have any maintenance history on the motor as well. I've got an '04 Opti and it's kicking like a mule, but the coils tend to go bad on them from time to time. I haven't had any issues, but I have heard such. Just keep that in mind.

He said that the coils had been replaced recently, I dont know if is should go for it or not honestly. Ive been lookin at a 96 and a 98 pro craft that i really like but theyre both about a grand more.

I am in the same situation you are in, except on a much smaller scale. I might offer some advice, don't jump to quick. Every boat I have looked at has been "the perfect boat", but then I wait and sleep on it and stumble on another "perfect boat". Someone told me "Unless you do a lot of research, you will buy two wrong boats before you buy the right one". I am just looking at every boat I can just to get an idea of what I might want, and what is reasonable price-wise. Best of luck.

ABSOLUTLY GREAT ADVICE!!!

Now if I were you there are a couple of things I would keep in mind.

1st do you do your own work on your boats...The newer and bigger the boat and engine, The more expencive the repairs are going to be at a shop.

Is this REALLY what you want or is this REALLY what you need because a boat does not win tourney's YOU DO.

It is a good looking ride for the money and looks to be well worth it.

DO NOT BUY IT WITHOUT A TEST DRIVE FIRST!!!

Think about one more thing...Is this going to max out your savings? if it is there may not be room for hidden costs such as wheel bearings...tire blows out etc...

Good luck if you do decide to get it and be safe!!!
