Hi guys, I have a quick question! What is the trick to tying a palomar knot and keeping the hook pointed up. Seems like everytime I tie a knot the hook ends up pointing down. Any suggestions?

The key seems to be to take the tag end after the palomar knot and put it back thru the eye of the hook from top to bottom (as the hook will rest when being used)...

I am sure someone will have a better answer but that is what I understand it to be.....

You have to thread the hook with the barb side up. Don't for get to bring the tag end back through the top of the eye so the hook sticks out. Sorry for the poor quality but this is an illustration...

Here is a couple of links.  Each one shows a different way to tie it.

I pre-tie my leaders. This does a couple of things for me. It allows me to replace them rapidly after 2 or 3 bass are taken. The light line used in this technique requires you to check your line often for nicks (bass teeth raise havoc with fluorocarbon!). And when you're into a wolf pack of smallies, you need to change up fast! Re-tying each time slows you down too much when the action is hot (and it will be, using this technique!).

When I pre-tie, I pull out a length of line from the spool. Cut it to desired length. Select the center of this leader. Then use this center point to make the loop you'll use to pass through the hook eye (hook point side is correct entry).

Now here's the bet part of pre-tying. When your palomar is complete, you just select whichever end of the leader gives you the most up-right hook point - this will be the tie point to your main line. Then pass the other end back down through the hook eye - this will be the end you tie your sinker to. Now you're golden!

A lot harder to describe with words than video, but I also do not have that link. You may want to do a search on Drop Shotting here; I posted a very detailed drawing, a few months ago, that should explains a lot to you. Hope this is of some help. Good Luck! ;)
