Which Reel To Go With?

Bought a new Boyd Duckett 7'3" micro magic rod and and going to purchase a new reel to go on it...Going to use it as my new worm rod. I think i have narrowed it down to 3 reels. Which one would you guys go with and why? Thanks

1.) Quantum Smoke 100PT

2.) Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spool

3.) Abu Garcia Revo SX

I've used the Lews and the SX. I would take the Lews. Have not used a Smoke so I can't comment on that reel.

Go with the Lew's, I've heard tood things and was going to get a couple myself, but decided to get more expensive ones instead.

The Lews reel hands down! I have a Smoke and it is a very nice reel but the Lews just out performs it in every way possible. I have been using my Lews reels since early this year with absolutely no problems.

I am really trying to decide between the Smoke and the Lews...price is about the same. My buddy keeps trying to talk me into the Quantum Code for $69 but I have began to notice that you kinda get what you pay for. I dont like spending the extra money but I have spent the money on a better rod and would like to get a quality reel to go with it as well.

Of your 3 choices I would go with either the smoke or the lews. I have heard good things about both of them and would lean towards the Smoke. They both have good reviews on TackleTour and I believe the smoke is the lighter of the two if thats a big concern. The Smoke will be my next reel and they can be found on ebay for less than $199 with some searching.

can not go wrong with a revo i bought a lews 3 or four months ago took it back a week later quality is lacky may have changed something recently i heard they were selling good if your looking for a worm reel get a revo s you dont need the sx its just got higher gearing and red and black save your money get the s and youll have a great combo unless you really like the red and black lol

I have the Lews Tournament Pro (2) and recently bought 2 Tournament series to replace my Revo SX's. The Lews reels have been great performers and I would strongly consider them. For what it's worth, the T series casts equally as well as the T-pro if you want to spend 40.00 less.

I am leaning heavily towards the Lew's reels...Goin to Bass Pro this weekend to check out the Smoke reels a little closer.

I only have experience with the SX but I can say that it's a fantastic reel.

Its a work horse - very durable and reliable.

I have the Revo SX, Curado 200e7 and the Quantum Smoke, and I also use Duckett rods. I prefer to throw carolina rigs and texas rigs with the Curados over the Revos. The Curado doesn't have any problems in windy conditions like the Revo. I fish rigged plastics quite a bit on windy days in open water, and the Curado doesn't miss a beat, and doesn't require any adjustments. The Revo will give you fits trying to throw it into the wind if you don't make adjustments regularly.

I like the Revos for Jigs, Spinnerbaits and Topwaters. I use the Smokes for Cranking.

Agreed about the curado. Set 2 brakes and occasionally adjust the cast controll. Very hassle free.

I use my Revo S the same way, it's had 2 breaks on since I purchased it in 09 and I haven't felt the need to change it yet.

Out of your choices, personally I would go for the Lews TP or consider an STX (should be priced similar online). The dual braking is hard to beat and you end up with the best of both: mags for distance, centrifugal for pitching...or anywhere in between. I've yet to use a Lews though so I'm assuming it performs similar to an STX or Premier.

The suggestions for a Curado on sale are good, but I hate the color and don't like the way the reel feels in hand. IMO the entire Revo lineup are some of the sturdiest feeling reels on the market. I would go to a store and handle all the models you're interested in, then pick one based on comfort and looks (in that order). Don't think you can really go wrong with any of your choices.

Well I finally bit the bullet this weekend and ordered a Smoke PT100 to pair with my Duckett rod...Hard to pass up the deal that Gander Mountain had going on. The reel shipped to my door for $139. Should bring this combo in at a whopping 9.9 ounces...lol. THEN i got on ebay last night and saw a sweet deal on a REVO STX...bid $100 and woke up this morning to see that I won that also...didnt really plan on winning it but guess its mine now. Hard to pass up that kinda deal anyways, especially with a 30 day money back guarantee.
