Sfritr Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 In the end it boils down to how much boat can you get for the money? you stated that the prices were roughly the same, is that with the Nitro rigged out? If that is the case and with the Nitro set up with all the bells and whistles you want and that price is close to a standard rigged Ranger I would say go with the Nitro. Eventually, you are going to spend the money on electronics, lighting, etc even if you buy the standard Ranger so you will be paying for it either way. If you are looking at boat quality and stability standpiont and cost is just your sticking point I would recommend the Ranger. Not that Nitros are not a decent boat, IMO Rangers are a better product. Although you pay alot for that Ranger Nameplate.... Quote
glock23-21 Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 ya i know im just trying to figure out why every one had rangers i went up to east fork friday and they had their turney because of all the rain we had its ushaly on Tuesday but any ways every one had rangers only one nitro and a cupple of skeeters im just trying to see why ranger has better over nitro im still undecided they both are really nice boats. most the upgrades i had for the nitro came stander on ranger just beside the down scan but i caught fish before with out the down scan. just though it would be cool to play around with. i know the one plus for the nitro is the removable dull console. just my preference i like it with two but if i take my boy out would like to remove it so hes not on the deck.. less chance of falling in.. Chaz Hickcox Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Look into the BassCat Sabre FTD as well. Good product with a better company backing that product, no matter if you buy privately or from a dealer. It's the same size as both boats you are looking at. It would be a little more than the Nitro, less than the Ranger, but IMO higher quality than both. Or you could do like I did and find an excellent quality used Pantera class boat. Better ride than both Ranger and Nitro. Again, this is just MHO, but check it out, don't limit yourself. 1 Quote
corybyrum Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Get a skeeter lol. I havent rode in a nitro but my boat compared to a ranger of equal size is faster and rides better. +1 to ranger on the storage tho thats one thing they deffinatly dont skimp on Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 3, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 3, 2011 Overall, Ranger boats are built better than Nitro boats. Therefore, they hold their resale value better. That said, when buying used boats, a lot of it depends on how well the owner took care of it - and drove it - both boat and trailer. So your mileage may vary. Super User South FLA Posted July 11, 2011 Super User Posted July 11, 2011 Ranger=Resale I would really consider a used boat, if you are patient you can find some garage kept gems, with an anal-retentive owner. The money you can save is ridiculous. As far as boat brands, I would stick to Skeeter, Ranger, and Bass Cat with the Bass Cat being on top of the list. Also, make sure you buy your boat with the max recommended HP engine and have engine inspected by an authorized dealer if buying used. 1 Quote

Open a photobucket or flicker account and upload to their site and then it as an img to this site. Photobucket allows you to do this simply by clicking then you can past it to the message body here. Not sure how flickr does it. Quote

chasnmich Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I own a 2011 Ranger Z118 with Mercury 150 Optimax. It is great. I added an 8 inch jackplate and am playing with the height. I may have it a bit high now but ran 60 mph avg (up/down river) in 103 heat. If pricing is what really matters to people, the Nitro is much cheaper in price. I bought the Ranger for the resale value and all of the extras that came standard on it. My thought was to buy this size boat now and upgrade later but I love this boat. I have never ridden in another boat that was as easy to drive and had the ride that as soft as this boat has. If anyone has a Z118 with an Opti and JP, let me know what height yours is set at and the related specs... speed, rpm, prop etc... Once again, congrats on your new purchase and have fun with it. After all, the fish do not know what your are in, right? Quote
Brent Christian Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 ranqer, hands down. its a better built, more stable and holds its value.. i would rather have a qood stable fishin boat than a fast boat anyday.. Quote
