Hippy jigs, Premier jigs, pro series, pro finesse jigs... What's the difference?

I can see that they're mostly differently shaped. Like the finesse jigs have a the skirt that goes over the head a bit.

But are there different uses for each body type? I read their descriptions for different types of heads but I'm confused on what the different shapes are for.

Hippy jig is essentialy a mop jig. Just got my order today. I like the fact that the skirts are tied on with wire. I have had good success with his bluegill swimjigs. I am sold on Buckeye mop jigs but I will be trying the hippy jigs this weekend.

I personally don't like Arkies around or in weeds, but I do like them around woody or rocky areas. The head is based around a 60* line tie hook which tends to hang the jig up in weeds. I prefer a jig head with a 30* or less line tie hook and a more bullet shaped head in weeds. I will use an arky early and late in the season or around sparse, weedy cover. I also really like arkies for drifting in current.

To really answer your question PondBoss, you can use any jig in any situation, but you have more options with jig head design for each situation which will make the day a little more enjoyable.

Ha I feel like that's a little too far for me. I'd probably just go with Arkys because the lakes around me are very diverse in composition. I want to try some of those hippy jigs.

Does anyone like using the finesse jigs? Are they just more compact?

The finesse jig is more compact and is really a completely different profile and action then a regular jig. For me they are a staple in the summer, I catch more fish on a finesse jig in the heat of the summer then anything else.

To answer the question on the arky yes it can do it all, the Alien can to, but if you are fishing a weed choked area neither are my personal choice, the pro grass head is the best in the thick weeds, so yes besides like chunk rock or rip rap and heavy weeds those 2 jigs can do it all, the difference between the Arky and the Alien is the Alien has a 3x hook and is more suited for wood/ sparse weeds or weedlines (plus it stands up) The Arky has a regular wire hook and is better suited towards wood/ gravel.

I look at arky heads like a crescent wrench. You can adjust it to suit any condition and get results, however, as the season progresses and those conditions change, you have other wrenches (jig head styles) to get the job done with more enjoyable results. You can still use an arky, but I personally would switch to something else.

Early and late in the season is where I use arkies. I personally don't think they can be beat. I'm sure other anglers here would prefer something else, but arkies in early and late season is my jig style of choice.

For your "snot grass" pond you frequent, I would highly recommend using the type of jig head River Rat316 recommended, the pro grass head. You'll still be picking up the grass in that pond, it's inevitable, but perhaps it won't be as frequent.

To be honest, I'm not even sure of the differences between jig heads. I try to keep it simple, find a color I like and or that I think will work add a matching trailer and flip it or swim it. I try to fish with this in mind....KISS (keep it simple stupid) I am not trying to argue or pick fights, just unsure about the differences that head shapes make when it comes to different fishing applications.
