justin apfel Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I know a lot of beginners ask this but I am not a beginner ha I caught this bass 2 years ago and I weighed it on a pretty crappy scale. The scale said 9.6 but I put the length and girth into three different weight calculators and one said 11.1, one said 10.125, and another said 9.38. What do you guys think? Length-25 inches, girth-18 inches. Quote
johnD. Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 About 9 pounds would have been more before she spawned out. Quote
justin apfel Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 About 9 pounds would have been more before she spawned out. I was thinking 9 to 9 and a half. I weighed it with a pretty crappy scale and it said 9 pounds 6 ounces, but I wasn't sure if the scale was accurate or not. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 3, 2011 Super User Posted June 3, 2011 Assume your scale is accurate until you buy one that you think is more reliable. Have you confirmed that your present scale is not accurate? You have your weight, move on and go catch another, that fish is history, you can't weigh it again. 1 Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 3, 2011 Super User Posted June 3, 2011 I don't think it's a double diget. Nine pounds would be stretching it. Quote
gar-tracker Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I think its what the scale said it is, nice fish young man. Those scales may be off a few ounces here or there but its nice fish and its in that range. One cant tell by photos. Good Job!!!!! Quote
Fishmaster10 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 9.6 sounds good, but like SirSnookalot said you should check to see how accurate that scale is. It's pretty hard to guess the weight of a fish that big because when a bass reaches a longer length (like 25") their weight can vary by quite a bit. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 3, 2011 Super User Posted June 3, 2011 Call it a 9.6 and have a fond memory of it, my friend. If it's really killing you to know, take the 4 weights and average it, either way, it's a nice oinker indeed! Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 4, 2011 Super User Posted June 4, 2011 Length X Length X Girth divided by 1200 25 X 25 X 18/1200 = 9.375 pounds or rounded off, in fishing lingo, to 12 pounds!!!! Quote
bassmanET Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Try weighing some around the house, like a bag of sugar. If the bag says 5lbs & your scale reads 5lbs the its accurate! Quote
BassThumb Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Nice fish! You calibrate a scale with a jug of water. A quart weighs 2.1 lbs and a gallon weighs 8.35 lbs. If it's accurate at 1,2, and 3 quarts and at a gallon, you're good to go. Factor in the weight of the jug, of course. Quote
Super User CWB Posted June 16, 2011 Super User Posted June 16, 2011 I routinely check my scale with a 5lb and a 10lb weight from my weight set. It has always been dead on. If you check scale and it is off, adjust accorcdingly. That being said, nice fish but 2 years ago? Probably gained a few since then like the rest of us. Quote
