BrianSnat Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Any of you NJ guys ever fish Monksville? If so how do you do there? I've fished it 6 times over this year and last and only once caught anything. 2 weeks ago I caught a bass and a pickerel. But the other 5 trips including this Monday, nothing. Not a nibble. Is there a secret to unlocking this reservoir? A friend of mine calls it Skunksville and I'm starting to believe it. Quote
Christian M Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Hey guys, I'm new to this site but I've been fishing NJ waters since I was a kid. The past 4 years I've really been honing my freshwater bass fishing techniques and tackle. I live in Ocean County so I spend a lot of time on Manasquan Reservoir, Assunpink, & other local lakes/ponds, but at least once a month I try to take a trip out to a new lake or reservoir. I've found a few local spots that regularly produce healthy Largemouth Bass in the 4-6 pound range. Last summer one of my fishing buddies pulled a 9.14 monster out of one of our favorite holes. I have yet to break his record but I did land a 6.5 this past October. If any of u guys Bassin in NJ would like any tips or advice I'm always happy to share some knowledge and I'm always up to wet a line. CM Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 9.14 is 1 pound shy of the NJ state record for LMB Quote

Christian M Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 9.14 is 1 pound shy of the NJ state record for LMB I know, when we weighed it we had our fingers crossed that it would break double digits, close but no cigar, he's got the pic up on his FB, ill ask him if its cool if I post the pic up here or even a link to his FB. Btw this past October I caught a 6.5 with a mouth & head that looked like it should have been 8-9 easily. The strange thing about it was the fish had no belly at all, actually the belly was indented. Im not sure if the fish was sick, if there wasnt enough forage, or if the fish was ust old & on its way out but I had never seen anything like it before, any ideas on what would cause something like that? The Bassinator Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Hey guys back from UNH for winter break got some new Powell rods for Christmas and tried em out even got my first fish of 2012! It was a pickerel but I cant wait to get into some bass in the spring. Happy New Year! Quote
tommiller76 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Millville Cumberland county here. Anyone on here new to NJ or just new to fishing NJ, primarily south jersey drop me a line if you have any questions or are interested in just picking up a few tips for fishing our waters. My personal best is a 7 plus pounder and I've had numerous 3-5 lb bass as well. While we aren't in the same class as the waters of Florida or Texas I am proud to say that we definitely hold our own as far as having great bodies of water that hold the potential of hooking into a 5-7 lb hog or even a little bigger on any given day. Great fishing to everyone this coming season and as always, be safe and have fun.....! 1 Quote

cmaher Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Morris County NJ, I'm just getting back to fishing several time a week vs a few times a year. I picked up a Hobie Outback Kayak this spring and had a great year fishing the local lakes in Morris. I just picked up a Pelican Bass Raider 10 to keep fishing in November and to get out early next spring. It's getting to cold for the Yak without waders and proper gear. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 11, 2013 Super User Posted December 11, 2013 Lived in Jersey the first 50 years of my life. Hillside, Elizabeth, Sayreville, New Brunswick & East Brunswick. Some of our favored waters: Farrington Lake (the best bass stretch was an old pig farm near Davidson's Mill Pond) Spruce Run (hunted there when it was "Clinton Public Shooting Grounds") Round Valley (hunted woodchucks there before it was inundated) Assunpink Lake (my favorite upland covert before it was flooded) Roger Quote
Megastink Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I live close to Philly now, but I grew up in West Milford fishing Monksville and Greenwood . Moved to Sussex Co as a preteen and THATS when I learned how to bass fish (Hopatcong). My folks live in Dingmans Ferry, Pa and I always try and wet a line when in town. Quote
odqlesz Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Mercer County, fishing with a kayak here. Unfortunatly there are no central jersey kayak fishing clubs on in south jersey which is about a 2 hour drive. Quote

It's a gorgeous little river and was voted the wildest river in New Jersey. There used to be a ramp at Chips Folly just west of the 542 bridge, or you can launch at Batsto State Forest. Roger Quote
