I've always been a bit of a fisherman since but never serious angling and now that the summers here i've really gotten serious about fishing but i'm having some trouble. I go to the nearby saluda river in SC to fish for bass but i can't ever seem to even get a nibble! I'm in slower parts of the river with appropriate depth and i look for cover to fish near but i can't seem to find the bass or they just aren't interested. Could it be where i'm looking or maybe my lure? maybe i'm not selling the bait but i've found myself stuck and figured you guys could help. I have gone to the same mile stretch of river for the past week every morning and some in the afternoon because i don't have a boat so i have to wade out to good spots. The water is somewhat clear and very cold as it comes from the bottom of the lake thanks to the dam and i've been using an orange jig with a crawdad trailer and the occasional top water frog but so far no hits, although i've seen some bass on some occassions. I know they're there and i'm so close to catching them, but maybe i'm missing one final small detail. HELP. i love fishing but i want that awesome feeling of having a fish and and angling it in.

Welcome to the forums.

I am not familiar with South Carolina, but I would think that crank baits, and swim baits might be good for locating the bass.

Areas that have drop offs from the current, or shallower areas off shore that have vegetation would be good places to try.

Another thing you can try is T rigging senkos or trick worms. Fish them slowly in and around the weeds and drop offs.

Fishing at dawn and dusk are usually the best times of the day.

Good luck.

Cranks, spinner baits, green and brown jig with a green pumpkin trailer, Throw the cranks, let them sit, slow retrieve. White spinners have done well for me, I'm fairly new to them. Green and brown jig, throw it, let it sit, then vary your retrieve from hopping it and dragging it on the bottom.

Also at Dick's they have a 3 crank bait set. It's by bomber. Look for it. It's 3 cranks by bomber for 10 bucks, talk about a deal. The Foxy shad has been killer for me lately.

Good luck my man
