After doing some research I am going to purchase my first baitcasting rod/reel combo.. I have been a spinner fisherman for some time just fishing small streams and rivers for trout and want to start doing some bass fishing.. here is my idea for first rod/reel combo, I am trying to go for something that will be versatile for many types of fishing such as spinner/crankbait as well as jigging, let me know if this looks good for someone starting off and in the low to mid-range price area.

shimano citica reel CI201E - 6.3 gear ratio - 27 IPT

6'6" Quantum tour edition PT series PTC666F - Power: MH Action: Fast

Any advice, things to look for when selecting, etc would be appreciated, thanks!

Looks good to me, also check out the Shimano Compre 7' MH/F.

Get the lefty citica, it is considerably easier to go from spinning only to casting. Overall, it looks like a good solid workhorse set up.

Check out the Shimano Curado reels. You can get them for $20 more right now and they are definitely worth it.
